So Yesterday I went out scouting some new land near school with a buddy and woke up this morning with chigger bits all over my ankles and a few on my hip. I was wondering so easy ways to relieve the itching, and maybe some ways to prevent them when september 15th rolls around. I have some stuff called chiggerex plus and it helps a little, but not for that long. Any advice you can give me would be great.

are you sure it chiggers and not seed tics?? Permanone on the clothing is the berries to keep off seed tics but im not sure if it works on chiggers. just dont use it on the skin, its for clothing only. try cortizone lotion for the itch!!

Ive always put clear fingernail polish on chiggers...been told if they are in there that it suffocates them in their...but I think I read somewhere that the bites show up after they have already moved on. It cuts down on itching either way.

this year I have done nothing, just keep from scratching them and they should be gone by this time next week.

Permanone is awesome for ticks...Treat clothes before hand...if you are wearing pants, you can spray it on one in the field but it isnt recomended, just be careful....dont spray anywhere near skin and you will be fine...but wearing jeans and boots it wont hurt nothing to spray bottom 2/3 of jeans.

I have found an Ice Pic or a Wire Welders Brush works best!

I believed the hype about Permanone but it didn't live up to my expectations. I sprayed my clothes with it about 30 minutes before entering the woods and still got those little seed ticks on me that outing. Is a tick going to jump off your pant's leg if it detects Permanone? :)

Thank God we don't have those damn chigger things up here in Wi. They sound nasty. As for the itch, hyrdorcordisone works for that stuff.

Permanone is great stuff and I usually use it but I didnt have any so I just used bug spray with deet in it. They are definitely chigger bites because I didn't see any seed ticks on me and I checked really good for them. I'll just go crazy trying not to scratch them for another week I guess...lol

Sliverflicker...I'll give the Ice pick a whirl. What can I lose?:smash:

I have had very good succes with this since using it. I have found the tics to be dead on my clothing when using it as they didnt have a chance to jump off. I believe it attacks there respatory system and kills them. However if you didnt have deet on your skin they may have gotten on you from your skin comming in contact with brush/vegatation. You need to treat your socks also. If they get under your pant legs they can go right through socks and get to the ankles. I know a whole lot of people that use it and your the first that i have heard that has not had luck with it. possably a bad can

Well, I'm going to give it another try. Didn't spray it on the socks but I did have my pant legs tucked into my boots. Maybe I didn't spray as well as I thought?

You guys probably won't believe me but I can't remember the last time I had a chigger. My skin must be too tough. Now seed ticks are a different story. Last week I walked through a nest of them and had hundreds covering my boots.

Good luck with those chiggers Matt, maybe Laura can help you scratch.

Maybe it's because you smell so bad that they don't want any part of that...lol And Laura did get me some stuff called Chigger Doom that has been working pretty good.

Alright Mo, here's the deal. I get chigger bites worse than anyone I know, therefore I've been extremely motivated to find a way to prevent them. Here is my newest and most effective strategy.

    1. Don't wear long socks... it sounds goofy, but it works, just trust me.
    2. Spray bug spray on your skin, (don't forget the waist band) on top of your socks and pants, and then on top of your boots.
    3. Tuck your pants into your tall rubber boots.
    4. The final and most important part of the equation... shower immediately (or as close as possible) after coming out of the woods.

    I promise this will help.

Thanks Dustin. I'm going to take a bath in that stuff next time out. The funny thing is I did wear short ankle socks but i didnt spray on my bare skin just on my pants. Like my dad always says, "You can't fix stupid."
