Yesterday afternoon, me and my daughter went mushroom hunting for morel's. Sadly we didnt find any. However we happened upon a dead tree that had the mushroom "Chicken in the woods" growing all over it. i left it alone since they were still young, i plan on going back in a today and checking on it and possibly harvesting them. Was wondering if anyone has ever had them and info they could share on them? From what i reserched they are supposedly good eating.

I pulled this picture off the internet to show what it looks like for people wondering.

Got this online from a web site "They can have a lemony, chicken-like taste and texture or at least go well with chicken"

These are completly different then the hen of the woods. These mushrooms are like a shelf type mushroom that can be anywhere from 2" to 20" wide ( dinner plate size ) and bright orange and yellow ( see picture above). hen of the woods are whiteish grey

Eating any wild mushrooms except morels freaks me out. We had a whole Amish family die a few years back from eating the wrong kind of mushroom up here. But if you know your stuff let us know how they taste!

I'm sure they are great, but look at how gross that thing looks. Can you imagine how stupid/hungry that first guy had to have been to see that and say mmmmm lets cook this up and see how it tastes. Lol
