Hey guys, I'm sure this question gets asked a lot, but I'm new so I thought I'd bring it up. Has anyone ever noticed whether chewing tobacco hurts your chances of killing a deer? I cant hunt or fish without it, so its coming with me in the stand. Throwing in a dip helps me calm down and focus. I was just wondering if its going to negatively affect the hunt. would it make a difference if I spit into a bottle or on the ground? Let me know what you guys think
You'll have guys state deer have come up and lick the spots they've spit it and such.....me I don't chew, but if I did I wouldn't think of doing it while trying to go after mature bucks. Just what I'm after and it isn't something I'm going to allow to stop that.
I'm gonna have to try this out myself, don't want to ruin bow season by going through cigarette withdrawals! I'd definitely use a bottle, maybe packed with baking soda.
I dip, and i used to spit on the ground until i had some deer sniff around where i spit and freak out. I would recommend spitting in a bottle.
My buddy and i do it and he has shot deer with one in. I have had deer down wind of me and they didn't seem to bother. Also a buddy i know, when it comes to deer hunting he will switch to an Apple flavor. Not sure if you would consider that baiting or not haha.
I don't think I've ever sat in my stand without a "chaw" in my lip. Never had any issues with it spooking deer.
Yep, a bottle with some baking soda inside works wonders. Just be sure you're dipping straight or something like that. Lay off the Wintergreen, Mint, etc.
I am a can a day of kodiak user never sat with out it. Use a bottle and when I feel it is prime time I take it out and pop in some gumoflage I believe it's called.
Use to chew, been quit for close to a month now, but when I did chew I never did it in stand just want to minimize as much movement as possible
Just quit and wondering how I will pass the time in the stand not doin dip I'm going to be going nuts I've always dipped in the stand!!!
Im a Copenhagen man. When it comes time to sit. Its Skoal Apple. They tend to stop and sniif around to the apple better than Copenhagen.
I think the whole "Skoal Apple" deserves it's own thread. I'd love to see some research on this or atleast hear from more hunters who have tried it.
thanks for your input fellas. I'm not much of a fan of skoal apple, it reminds me of when i was 17 and puked my guts up from it. I think i'll bring a can of grizzly straight with me and spit into a bottle
Every deer I have shot, I have been chewing Copenhagen long cut when I let the arrow fly. Never had a problem yet, but I don't spit after the first minute of throwing one in. I tried the Skoal apple thing, but I just can't stay away from the Copenhagen Sent from my pocket computer using Tapatalk
Forget the bottle or spitting on the ground. Just be a man and swallow your tobacco spit, it'll put hair on your chest.
