Hi Yall. I was Just wondering if I could Chew Tobacco While Hunting Deer?? I've thought about it but never did because I was always afraid of deer picking up the scent. So I was wondering what everyone else opion or thoughts were on this Topic. Thanks for the help. Butters

This topic has been discussed a lot. Do a search and there well be tons of opinions for and against it. Myself I have chewed in the stand and didnt notice a difference. I'm sure there have been people busted chewing but that could be said about anything one might choose to do in the stand

If a deer is going to smell your chew then he is probably going to smell you anyway. I can see where spitting off the edge of that stand could get you busted, mainly from a movement perspective versus scent though.

If you are practicing a really strict scent free regiment why blow it using it. I have had more than one deer come in from down. I feel sure if I had dip or chew in, they probably would have smelled that. I personally have before but, after thinking long and hard about it, I stopped. Guess its all a personal preference thing though.

I love that dip, might be the death of me, but it gives me peace. But i agree with what one has said above, i take good care of controlling my scent by means of clothes and gear. I will dip before i hunt and when im done but dont during a bow hunt.

I only bow hunt the beginning of the season for a little over a month during both bow and back powder season, then its dogs and shotgun for me... I will dip during those hunts as the stealthiness doesnt need to be as ninja like.

I wouldn't do it. When I did chew I was busted a couple of times on the stand and quit when hunting. I actually really worried about having one on the way to hunt in the truck, that I would have the smell on my breath yet so I chewed the heck out of the no scent gum on the stand. Hard not to have one hunting though.

I know several people that kill deer with a cigarette hanging out of they're mouth. I've never done that but I do pit a dip in almost everytime I hunt and have never had a problem. Hunting the wind is far more important than any scent control. Way I look at it people killed deer for a lomg time until all these scent control cloths, soaps, gum, or whatever else there is by simply using the wind. I've actually killed more deer in jeans, work boots, and a jacket then all my expensive under armour gear.

Alright, here's the run down on my hunting and chewing. 4 years ago, 126" buck killed at 21 yards with Copenhagen long cut in. 3 years ago, 150" buck killed at 9 yards with Copenhagen long cut in. 2 years ago, 151" buck killed at 31 yards with Copenhagen log cut in. Last year, 166" buck at 16 yards killed with Copenhagen long cut in. I think I have a pattern figured out :tu:

Never made a deer hunt without a dip in my mouth... Not sure if it messes anything up, but I normally kill a few deer a year.
