This past season I have been taking my iPad mini and card reader with me. When I was hunting a stand close to one of my cameras I would pull the card on the way in or while changing spots for the day. It added a more realtime element to the hunt. Being in my stand and able to review a weeks worth of photos felt pretty cool to me. One morning one of the biggest buck in the area passed my stand a couple hours before shooting light. Made the morning, a bit more intense...thinking he might be bedded down close by. I had to take the mini in because Apple was not supporting connecting the card reader to my iPhone. Just saw this article that appears to have made my pack a few ounces lighter next year! Now I just need to figure out how I make enough space in my phone for all the pics. I am constantly out of space as I keep a ton of pics and have the lowest GB iPhone. It is work provided so, I do not get to choose the storage capacity. Wanted to share as others may be hauling in full ipads or interested in doing something similar next season. Apple marks Lightning-to-USB Camera Adapter as officially iPhone-compatible
Too bad it has taken Apple so long to do something has been easy to do with an Android phone for years. One of the true reasons I don't buy Apple products is because of all the built in, and I believe intentional, restrictions.
I've been using a wireless device on my IPhone for a couple years. Its called "air stash" its a little pricey but works great.
This is what I use. It's by media streamer. You get there app and then connect thru wifi (same way you would thru Bluetooth). I think it was around $30 but it was a couple years ago. You can view pics without storing them and taking up space on your phone.
Apple should just keep doing what they are doing.....since the majority of the stock I purchased was in the 2007-2008 time frame, I am happy.
I just received my Apple Sd card reader to plug into my IPhone 6 to check picks in the stand. Tried it today and was disappointed to see that I can't just view the pics without importing them all to my phone first. With limited storage space I guess I'll be back to using my Moultree card reader but I guess it was worth a try with the Apple.
Why couldn't you use a digital camera? I normally have one in my pack for my "hero" shot. Just pop the sd card in a view. Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk 2
I used a camera before. Also my old Garmin auto GPS. Both are ok options but viewing them on my phone is a little easier.
Too bad android followed suit on the s6. I lost my s5 with a 128g card in it full of stuff. Bummed out but I at least had insurance. Found out I could get an s6 active but it had internal battery and memory! No external memory slot available. I told the. I just wanted another s5 but here I sit with my new s6 active. Guess I'm backing my stuff up to a cloud so I can keep adequate memory available should I need it
Not a bad idea. As long as the processing power is good, should not be an issue. Since I went with the ipad mini route, I enjoyed being able to import, flip through 200 pics quickly, seeing time stamps clearly, and being able to zoom. Not as good as my laptop but, pretty happy with it. I will try my phone now and see if it's a big enough screen for my liking. I was not aware of the other ideas here like media streamer. That's looks like a nice option.
Guys with storage limitations on iPhone: I was in same situation. What I found was lots of space was taken up by old text messages with photos. These are saved in the phone. You have to delete the whole conversation to make room. Settings> General> Usage will tell you where you data is being used.
