$550 is a pretty standard price for high end extreme weather coat.

    Check out raven wear sometime

I didn't knock the garments. I'm sure its great stuff. It's just not worth what they're asking, no coat is. All I said was "i checked their site and Aw hell no." Way too much mark up. That's not knocking the garment.

Most things you get what you pay for. Sure a Sony 50" might look the same as a no namer, but theres fine details and quality controls that come with paying the mark up.

Also $200 for coat and jacket is pretty low, Columbia Jackets are like $150, if you want quality you usually pay more for it.

Plenty of things I spent both a lot and a little money on over the years and was not satisfied with my purchases......My Sitka gear isnt one of them. I been using it for open country hunting/ mt hunting since maybe 07ish...always performed great and I never felt like the I didn't get good value for my money for the clothings quality/performance.
The only thing I ever felt was lacking was clothing suitable for stand hunting whitetails.....and they changed that when the came out with the Stratus and Fanatic series. The Fanatic jacket and bibs are the best two pieces of stand hunting clothing I have own in 20 plus years of bow hunting. For example this past fall I spent 6 days straight of all day sits on a cold( high temp for the week was low 30's and the freaking wind wouldn't stop) out of state hunt....I have never been that comfortable for those lengths of time in a stand with clothing that still allowed comfort and dexterity. Money well spent for sure. I also have have a set of Stratus bibs and jacket that I use for early season whitetail hunting that works super.

Kuiu, First Lite, , Kryptek, the orginal Russell APX stuff all produce( or have produced) products similar to Sitka in form and function....and surprise surprise the prices are similar also.

    Well said.

I have always wanted a fantatic suit, but out of my 5 month season I spend maybe 2 weeks in the stand. Hard to justify it for myself. But, I have developed an open country system that works for me.

Trial, how do you layer for those temps with the fanatic series for a stand set. I was thinking the marino wool base, traverse zip t and kelvin pants with kelvin vest would pretty much do me in the coldest weather ky has to offer. With the fanatic over top, of course.

Based on what I use, with no prior use of the fantatic, I'm gonna say you will be good down into single digits. Maybe more of you have a bigger set than me:tu:

    I'm a small guy, 5'10" 170#. I get cold easy.

The was temps in the teens at night, highs in the lower 30's with wind. And planing for all day sits in tree with little or no cover. Went in way before light and would stay till dark. biggest thing for me is slowing down and taking my time going to prevent over heating.

    Lowers:
I used first lite merino wool heavy weight bottoms, and just the Fanatic bibs. I dont really get cold below my waste so I tend to go with less clothing down low. .
    Uppers:
First light medium weight top. I then put on a traverse top. I would wear a Ascent jacket( on my way in )and pack a Kevlin vest and Fanatic Jacket in Ascent 14 pack........ cut off wool Filson gloves a couple hand warmers and I was good for the day. oh...and the light weight slip on boot covers over my mucks with couple hand warmers in them.

I hunted western Ky and it was on the milder side.....Another thing you might consider is Stratus bibs with Fanatic jacket over them, this gets me though most of November in NY and Ohio...come DEC i usually break out the Fanatic bibs or if i know I am going to sit all day.

Great thread guys!! I have bought an array of hunting clothing for th past couple of years and am always searching for the right combination. I am now ditching most of my gear and will be sipmlifying it all with Sitka. Pricey..yes but that's what it's come to for me. I'm sick and tired of searching for the best thing for me. Can't wait to get out and test Sitka out!
