Knew it had to be about time to mow so I looked in on my plot tonight.

Mowed into plot. You would be surprised how the deer will utilize this mowed trail, path of least resistance.

The whole plot is 80 yards by 80 yards roughly. There is areas where nothing is growing and I think I'm going to kill it, disc it and plant a late planting.

Looks great, Rob. If the weather patterns continue the way they have all summer, we're going to have a great year for plots.

Congrats on such a fine place. I can tell you have put some sweat into your land. Roughly how many acres do you own there? It looks great!

Thanks guys. It's a labor of love, it's money and time but the deer benefit the most. When I first planted it in 06, including the ATV Disc's that I purchased, I roughly had a $1000 in it. Now it's just gas, seed, lime and fert. Still time consuming but also fun.

Here's a couple shots from before and afters. I'm sure many of you have seen some of these before but bear with me and the newbies. :deer:

    Virgin shot preplot, all CRP/weeds:

Trail cam pic from 06, maybe those two still live there? LOL

In 07 the clovers were still hearty but the weeks began to take over. In 08 there was barely anything there. The clovers were there but only under all the overgrown weeds. I wanted to redo it this year and so far so good.

IT's been a great growing season so far will continue to be. More pictures to follow later.

Rob, do you Round Up before you plow and disc ? I did a 2 acre plot of Whitetail Institute Chicory Plus and did not use any round up. The grasses are coming in, but so is everything else. My concern is that the grasses and weeds will overtake the clover. However, I was told to mow the grass when it gets a certain height ... YOUR THOUGHTS ??

Also, what discs did you buy and where ?

I have another 2 acres that we prepared but I plan on getting down some Round Up in prior to my August planting. We are planning on using some Shot Plot in that one.

All in all it has been fun and another learning curve.
