So. last night just before dark I'm in my treestand. Two does come in to water at the pond. I have checked all my shooting lanes and know the distances like the back of my hand. I draw on the lead doe and settled my 30yd pin just behind her shoulder. I shot six inches low. Then I get another arrow out of my quiver, this time holding a little higher. My arrow passed just under her. If she would have jumped the string she would have dropped right into it. She was the third doe I have missed low this season. I go out to practice this afternoon and notice that my arrowrest is looser than a goose. It had dropped about 1/8". Must have rattled loose during all that summer practice. No wonder I shot low.
This is the very reason I keep a block in my truck. I sling atleast one arrow before every hunt. Or the night before the hunt for morning hunts.
I usually shoot every day during the season but most certainly if I'll be hunting the next day. If it is an afternoon hunt I'll shoot some that morning. Don't shoot a lot at a time, maybe avg about 10 arrows, but I try to make every shot count.
I carry a fieldpoint with me if I don't shoot before going out. Launch one from the tree at a leaf at 30 yds and double check. ALso helps with getting to know how your arrows target from the air.
Happened with me a long time ago but it was my sight not the rest. I also shoot year round and almost everyday. I have yet to draw back in the stand so I have to shoot something! My deer not moving yet.
