Arrow looks like it came from a long, long way off. I'm suspecting more than just a "oops, I missed the target!"

    Glad she is ok.

Yea with the angle of that arrow it was at the end of one heck of an arc. Makes me think someone was drawing back and punched the trigger. But no matter how it happened that was one lucky girl! Thats very close to some major organs and vessels.

Looks like it might have been a "sky draw". Thank good it missed her spine.

It looks like the arrow found her liver, still a very deadly shot. Obviously requiring major surgery.

To lodge like that it would have had to be at the end of a very long trajectory, with most of its energy lost.

That is the other clue about a sky shot, in addition to the angle.

A vivid reminder that archery is a hunting and ancient combat activity originally.

Thats terrible! but at least it was a field point....a broadhead would have likely killed her...she's very lucky

I've posted about that type of a draw before while practicing archery in your backyard or your neighborhood. I draw from the ground up the only possible person you're going to hurt from that type of draw is yourself.

"Sky drawing" is a clear sign someone is shooting way too much poundage. If you have to point anywhere but at your target, while sitting flat down with your legs in front of you, turn it down, if for no other reason than it takes too much movement. I used to shoot 80+, now I shoot 68 and am considering turning it back some more.

I am glad the young lady is improving but it was still completely avoidable. Does anyone know if they figured out who shot the arrow?

Not yet. Or at least they have not said yet. They did release they have a bow in their possession and it is at the crime lab.

I'm thinking this is a bogus... YES I SAID BOGUS... XRay. When was the last time you saw an Xray that would cover from your head to your thighs, out to your hands a foot from you body and a bunch of air around you. No WAY. FAKE

Agreed on the potential for a fake xray photo. Too much real estate and no lead blob to cover reproductive organs.

It could be a ct scan. If it was fake why would they have shown it on the news with an interview of her mom. I have copies of my xrays and ct scans that have images similar to this too

Exactly. It's not like it is in a e-mail. It's right in the newspaper.

The first thing I noticed was someone was shooting at the sky. Look at the angle that arrow entered the girl.

This could have been caused by a deflection too. I have seen arrows go straight up in the air after deflecting off the back of a 3D target. Also had some nasty deflections after hitting limbs in the woods. Just my $0.02.

I think if she was standing up straight you would see that the arrow went in pretty straight not a sky shot! I would like to know how they unscrewed the arrow from the field point?
