I hunt in an area that the possibility of my stand being stolen is a very real concern (even wit being locked to the tree) so I need to keep the cost down. I have considered a climber but there just aren't a lot of suitable trees in my hot spot so a hang on is probably my best bet.

I want a stand that has a decent size platform on it. Last season I used my brother's extra hang on. It had a fairly small platform and I felt quite uneasy in it. Even with the safety harness on, I felt the stand was too small to move around on.

Now I am not sure if I am asking for too much or not in wanting something with an ok sized platform and it being lightweight. Being a woman, I just can't safely get a heavy stand in the tree by myself.

Another issue I have found with other stands I have used, is the seat seems too high on them, which makes it quite uncomfortable but I don't think that is something I can avoid.

    Any recommendations are welcome!

    Thanks

what is your budget? Cheap and light usually don't go hand in hand when it comes to treestands

That was kind of what I figured. What I can afford to spend on a stand and what I am willing to spent on a stand that could possibly get stolen are 2 different deals! Hahaha. I guess I don't want to spend more than $100. If I knew there was little possibility of it walking away, I would be willing to spend more.

Not sure how willing you are but the best option in this situation would be to buy a lone wolf and sticks and pack it in and out each hunt. Its expensive, but its hard to steel when its always in your possession.

Need to hit up all your sporting goods stores for clearance stuff. 2 years ago I got an Ameristep aluminum stand that cane in around the 12.5 lb mark and was very comfy from WalMart for $50. The Platform left a little to be desired but it was light and the seat was nice. I also just picked up a Hawk Helium XL is right at 12lb with a bigger platform than the Ameristep for $100. Usually is $140. If I were you I would get a set of sticks to pair with a nice stand of your liking and take them in and out. At the very least just use screw ins (pick them up cheap on CL) and buy a nicer stand and take it in and out with you. Once you get used to it a hang on probably takes less than a minute to hang.

Buy a Bearcat or Bearcat XL and lock it on. Use Ratchet straps to make it snug to tree. If it walks away not too big of a deal only $40 unless your sure it will get stolen than take the route of a light, expensive, haul it in every hunt stand. These aren't light but cheap. Removing your last climbing stick before leaving every hunt is a good theft deterrant strategy also. Menards website will tell you which stores still have some in stock. Next fall they stock up and go on sale again before season. Also wear a safety lifeline. Amazon sells 3 packs for $99 usually.

Some great suggestions already! I am going to look into these. Who knows, maybe I will drop the money on a nice light one and make myself become efficient at putting it up and taking it down myself.

What I have been doing is using a cabled lock, leaving it out, but removing my screw in steps when i come out. I have yet to have a stand stolen in the 15 years we have been hunting this land, but I have heard stories from others that hunt it that have had stands stolen.

    Welcome to the site!

Get the Millenium M-50 treestand. (24x30 Platform). It uses a Cam-Loc receiver that lets you take the stand with you and you can leave the Receiver on the tree you want to hunt. The Cam-Loc comes with a chain or a ratchet strap.

Besides being really practical, it is ONE OF THE MOST COMFORTABLE TREESTAND YOU WILL EVER SIT IN! I have a M100 that is 2 years old that I will be selling soon for $75-$95. The M100 is THE MOST COMFORTABLE!

I really like those Millennium stands! That cam lock system they have looks ideal for my situation. Heck, I'm interested in that M 100 if you would be willing to ship, I'm willing to pay shipping!
