I'm talking the walmart special heads. The Allen and carbon express heads. I will post a doe my dad killed with the Allen spider expandable.

A field point will kill a deer if put in the right spot. I'd like to see a photo of the BH after the shot if available. Thanks for posting!

My last 4 animals were killed with a $4 BH from Walmart...didn't have to bloodtrail any of them...throw them away and grab another - always sharp.

    Good job on the doe.

To be honest, I have not had the same luck with inexpensive BHs. I used them one year and went back to a better head. I spined a deer with one and granted it went down in its tracks. But the follow up shot afterwards was right in the cage where the first shot should have been. Both heads came out of that deer and there was only one blade in tact. 1 for 8 isn't what I like when using broadheads. I can't imagine what would have happened if the first shot would have been in the cage. I suspect it would have been a long trail with little blood to follow. Just my experience.

As much as we spend on equipment and tags to be a bow-hunter, I can not imagine saving a few dollars on what is likely the most important piece of equipment we use. Not doing it. I can normally re-use my broadheads and just re-sharpen or replace the blades. Some of them have killed several animals, so in the long run a good quality head may actually save you money.

The doe was shot about 3 yards straight down through top of shoulder. About 8 in of penetration and she ran maybe 100 yards. The broadhead is on a fresh arrow and he sharpened the blades. I myself shoot a lower pound bow so I stick with fixed. This year they are Carbon express broadheads for 10 dollars a box.

Allen Broadhead, Allen Arrow, This is my 10th deer in 3 seasons harvested with cheapo broadheads and arrows. Think about it, it's a razor on a stick flying at over 300 fps.. How expensive does it need to be?

Shot 2 deer with cheapest carbon express heads when I first started bowhunting. Both heads came out without the blades on em. Blades had to be dug out of the meat.

What's so funny? Seriously...I don't get it. This is a thread about the effectiveness of inexpensive equipment rendering animals dead. He posted a dead animal as result of his inexpensive equipment.

I have killed all my deer with cheap Wal-Mart broad heads, to be honest I don't yet see a need for 13 dollar BHs when I can get them for 4 bucks.... pun intended....

I watched a guy go through six cheapo broadheads trying to kill a hog. He did get the hog (we used dogs) but every one of those heads fell apart.

You can buy muzzy heads for $5-6 a piece and they don't fall apart. Replace the blades and kill again, and again and again. :)

Is there a link to an independent study done on the "cheap" heads? I'd think it's already been done. Otherwise I might go buy 3 different styles and put them "head to head"...hehehe. pun intended. I shoot NAP heads but honestly if an Allen head proved to be just as reliable via independent study, why spend the extra? For the name? for the marketing? Falls under the same category as "expensive" vs walmart camo IMO.

I think the expensive ones look really cool, although I just can't bring myself to buy them. Bowhunting is just like fishing, you can spend as much money or as little money as you want and still be successful. To be truthful it's all about shot placement and confidence. If you need to spend alot of money on your gear to be confident in the woods, then by all means go ahead. If the wife caught me spending $40 to $60 on broadheads, she'd probably want new sheets or something.

I always chuckle at these threads. It's fine to shoot CX arrows, but if you buy CX broadheads, you are an unethical tight ***. Good stuff.

I heard of a guy who tacked a wounded doe to finish it off with a knife. After he slit the does throat it turned out she was shot in the leg, probably would have survived. Beat that for how cheap you can kill a deer. One shotgun shell and a knife. I personally would go with something a little more higher quality but whatever. If I finish off a deer someone wounded with a pos broadhead I am tagging it, probably.
