10/4 I’m gonna keep looking around. So many different options on the “best” one. Just looking for a solid machine that will last and can take some abuse.

Yeah any chain saw with a driver instead of a sprocket is going to be more expensive, but you will notice the difference in performance. I guess it depends how much wood you cut per year.

For 6 you can get into a farm boss and few extra chains. With any extra I advise getting your files and maybe some gear.
Just stay sharp and don't touch anything but clean wood.

And watch Runnings for deals. When I bought mine they had a 10 gift card for every hundred spent. It's a great way to get free chaps

It will depend on the size of tree you will be working with most. If most of your trees are under 16", I would seriously look at the 261. It's a pro saw. But if your going to need bigger 361 is a great choice. Definitely worth going to the pro saw if your looking for a lifetime saw. The 500 is already out, but it cost more then a 661. If money was no object, I would get the 500. For its weight and size it's the most powerful saw for its class. Plus fuel injection, so no carb to deal with.

I have a "290" Farm Boss. Every single time I'm cutting firewood rounds I wish it was at least an 036. The 290 is ok but it doesn't take a whole lot of pressure to bog it down. I keep considering looking for a used bigger saw and then selling the 290 once I find one. I already have a small 017 for limbing and other light work, so might as well have something that will cut faster when just cutting firewood rounds.
It drives me crazy that they changed what they call them, tough not to refer to them as an 029 rather than a 290.
The first time you cut firewood with an 036 next to someone with a 290 you'll be pleased you spent a bit more.

Besides my 361 I also have the 017 that I inherited from my dad. At first, I had a lot of problems getting it to stay running but after getting the tiny fuel line replaced and running premium gas, it runs good now. Surprisingly, it cuts quite well. I have had to use it to un stick my 361 before. Lol

Always helpful to have a back up saw in case a guy does that. And it happens to everyone eventually.

Always save your old bar just in case you have a stuck bar.

Just picked up a MS-362 was a little more than I wanted to spend but it’s an investment.

That's a great saw! You will not regret that price after the first tree you cut up.

Hahah, I been back and forth with a Stihl rep and he talked me into the 362, the prop I bought is where I been hunting since I was a kid, the owner called me one day and asked if I wanted to buy 6 acres to build on. Bc he and I alway BS b4 I go hunt and I mentioned I was lookin for land to build on, he said I figured you would want to be closer to your hunting spot. Long story short it was timbered last year and there’s a pile of wood to be had, I’m gonna load up this spring and I need to clear some trees out where we are gonna build. Pumped to break the saw in!
