Okay who impressed and who is depressed. Bama's offense was huge, fast and on track. Their D was good but not as good as I was expecting. LSU was untested... can't judge anything by their scrimmage. My Auburn team... can't tackle and won't win many big games until they tackle better. Offense looked okay at times... but fizzled too often when it counted. They still need a QB! Game was over when they chose to punt with 4:00 left... have some guts and go for it. Cheeze Dip (Chizik) still hasn't shown me anything... Georgia was unimpressive... so was Florida... Mizzou has as good a shot as anyone. Michigan, did pretty well I think... considering. The biggest shocker of all... Bo Pellini learning some manners and not chewing gum like a cow with his mouth open the whole game. Huskers were ehhh. USC... very fast but my jury is still out Oklahoma... average... and easily beatable by anyone good.
I will be interested to see bama play a team with a good qb. Apparently running 5' 6'' vincent smith up the middle was not working. Bama and USC looked the best, everyone else look very average.
Bama apparently picked up where they left off last season. As a TN fan I have to wonder, isn't time for Saban to retire? I was pleased with my team out of the gate. Not impressed with UGA or UF, I have to think the Vols have a shot at the East after week 1. And apparently Miss St knows how to make an entrance...
Florida did look bad. As did UGA defense. As for LSU, they were on their way to destroy UNT, as they should, and then Mettenburger got hit hard under the chin. After that, in classic Les Miles form, the offense ran the same 3 plays the rest of the game.
Michigan had receivers open, we just do not have a good qb, and they rarely put pressure on denard. Denard cannot throw, unless it's to other team. Barkley would have shredded bama's secondary.
That was a perfect strike to the Bama D. Take away a couple gimmees and maybe the game was closer. Its not just throwing that is at issue... it is running for your life and throwing. I can see Tyler Watts picking that Bama D 2nd apart IF... big IF... he has time to throw. I am also looking forward to seeing LSU play a more talented team...
OU looked like crap. But they always to the first game. I bet by next week they will be firing on all cylinders.
I was the most impressed by Oregon and their Freshman QB. I know they didn't play anyone major, but he looked like the real deal.
Oh yeah, what was up with Michigan's horrible uniforms? Highlighter yellow? Is Michigan trying to be Oregon?
The top 25 teams did not really impress at all except Bama and USC. Everyone else seemed to struggle, and against some cupcake teams. What was with Wisconsin struggling against FCS UNI??? Mizzou disappointed me because I didn't think SELU would even score as terrible as their QB was. Our defense played pretty soft in my opinion. Hoping to catch the Dawgs before they heat up. They always seem to struggle in the first few weeks of the season. Watch for me at the MU v. UGA game on saturday night boys
Agreed, the Huskers looked eehhhh. Offense looked solid at times but the defense looked iffy at best. Bama looked unbeatable, by a B1G TEN team anyway. Those guys are at a different level. Most of the Big Ten looked weak against sub par teams. I was up in State College for the game and honestly I left there feeling sorry for that fan base and university. Those people are shelled, then to have Ohio get a win on the road was fun for me but crushing for them. That is a team and a fan base that needs something good to happen in a big way this weekend.
UF didn't look that bad... .. they looked terrible. The last couple years I've just been waiting for everything to click with this team and they actually start playing like a division 1 team. It's hard not to like CWM, because he's doing everything the right way, but the results just aren't there. Florida fans realize this is a 9-3 team at best, so we're not looking for national titles yet, just improvement. 14 penalties against Bowling Green is ridiculous. Their offense still looks horrible. I guess Johnny B wasn't that bad after all. It was the entire team. They finally picked a QB in Driskel. He's not as polished as Brissett right now, but he does have a higher ceiling, and could be really, really good if he figures it out. He just looks timid right now. If all else fails, he'll probably just tuck and run because he's a giant human being and has an NFL body. Mike Gillislee looked really good for the Gators. That guy deserves to have a great season for as long as he waited for his turn. The D was the same as last year. Good, but not great. More of a bend, but don't break attitude. I do think they kept thing pretty vanilla schematically and didn't show their hand to Texas A&M. They are loaded with potential play makers, but somebody has just got to step up. It'll be a scary next two weeks for the Gators. They could easily lose to A&M and UT. I was a sophomore in high school the last time they lost to UT. I don't think I can even stomach them losing to the Vols. They'll have their hands full this Saturday. A&M's first SEC is a huge deal in College Station.
Huge CWM supporter here... he was the best part of the Tuberville years. Not sure how O minded he is. Way too many penalties. They should improve... I picked them for the East. Doykes!!!
