I have often wondered if this is a good practice. Do you target specific Does before the rut? If you do, why? I think maybe in some areas with high doe populations, this will matter very little. Let's just say you hunt a piece of land that has a 6:1 doe/buck ratio (just an example). If you go in before the rut and take 3 does that are mature, do you think this will hurt your chances at seeing a buck during the rut? Keeping with the 6:1 ratio, that gives the buck 3 deer to breed (that will possibly not go into estrous until a later date). He will not take long in doing this, will he? Will this drastically reduce your buck sightings during the rut? Does, I think, have a lot smaller core area than bucks to begin with, so it stands to reason no more will show up on your property to be bred. Just rambling.
