Here In Minnesota they just passed a law where anyone who Is operating a commercial vehicle can not talk on a cell phone. It pisses me off!! The fine Is 2500.00 for the driver and up to 10000.00 or something for the owner of the truck. I talk on my cell phone all of the time. I have to as It's how I communicate with my farmers and the milk plant I haul the milk to. The state of Mn says we can get a blue tooth thing and use that but only that. This law has been In effect for about a month. Still I haven't bought a blue tooth but I suppose I better get one. No doubt there's people out there who get distracted while talking on their phone. I see It quite often as I'm on the road more then most. I'm sure there will be a law for anyone driving pretty soon. Lately every cop I meet on the road Is staring at me seeing If I'm on my cell phone hoping to write out a ticket. These same cops I've saw looking at their computer while driving down the road. Go figure!! To be honest I don't think there's a better driver on the road then a trucker. Not all truckers are decent drivers but most are and have to be. You have to be a defensive driver and watch out for everyone else.
well, come april, all trucks 10000 pounds or more, there will be no cell phone, must use bluetooth. 2700 fine. unbelievable.
You ought to try buying a new truck these days without an in dash computer. Are we serious? Our government is worried about people talking on a cell phone while driving but allowing people to drive around with computers installed in the dash? I've seen them too... and a cop with his computer in the passenger seat is going to write the ticket.
DOT in Mass just passed a law for commercial drivers that if seen driving and talking with a hand held device it's a 10K fine. Are you kidding me that's even if you are driving a f350 dump truck. I run a landscape business and 90% of my phone talking is done while driving. I definitely agree with the txing being banned but c'mon just another way to screwed owning a small business!!!!!
The person on the other end can't hear you worth a **** though. At least from my experience talking to one of my buddies that uses his all the time.
This is way beyond a public safety issue anymore. Let's call a spade a spade. Most of these laws are designed for one reason only...revenue generation
These didn't happen to be your pots, were they? http://forums.bowhunting.com/showthread.php?31476-Call-cops-or-not Paranoia and conspiracy theories.....love them.
Yeah I could just see that meeting of the minds... Mind 1: How can we generate more revenue? Mind 2: Oh, I know! We'll ban the use of cell phones while driving. We'll all be rich!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Minds: Hooray!
Apparently us illinois people can't even figure out an on ramp from an off ramp, I believe, if my memory serves me correct we have had 5 head on collisions on interstates in the last 3 months. Mostly drunk people tho I did see an article in the newspaper about trying to get car companies to disable phone usage while moving.
Pretty soon, we will all be like this guy.
Current Indiana law only bans texting while driving. You can still be on the internet or facebook. Also, the cop cannot search your phone. The law has been in place almost a year now and I think only 2 peolpe have been ticketed.
I think there are SOME people who can, and MANY who can't, drive and talk on a cell phone. My experience is that the person swerving all over the road or driving excessively slow or fast, often times has a Cell Phone attached to their mug. Pretty much makes my feelings the same as Vito's since it seems that usually it IS a woman that is the "bad driver/talker." "Say it ain't so, Joe?" I know of a couple LEO's who were told that they needed to start changing the "lee-way" they allow for speeders on the road, to help "create more revenue."
We need to ban ramps then. Or at least have some more laws against driving the wrong way. Every stoplight should have one of those turn on green arrow only signals too. Clearly we can't be trusted to turn without one. Every stop sign needs to be an actual light too. Three children have been killed by falling tvs in Chicagoland since October. State intervention is needed here too. Perhaps limit the size of televisions to less than 5lbs. Or television police that will randomly enter homes and check for tv safety. It's for the children. As for bluetooths and big rigs.... I think it's obvious that the right thing to do is to ban big rigs. They have an unfair advantage when clobbering smaller vehicles. Might as well take out the light trucks and SUVs too. Nobody really needs anything more than a chevy sonic. With 55mph governors; cell phone blocker; built in breathalyzer; automatic engine cut-off switch if you try to go through a fast food drive-thru; free birth control dispenser and non-removable Obama '12 sticker.
