There are 21 states in America that are CC or permit-less. There are also 21 states that don't have a death penalty statute on their books. Six of the CC (constitutional carry) states are non-death-penalty states. Three of those six states are Blue and three are Red. Most of the CC states are both Red and have death penalty statutes. California, a Blue state, and a [reluctant] "may issue" state, is the most anti-gun state that actually has a death penalty statute still on its books, moratoriums notwithstanding. The three Blue CC states are: Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. They are all non-death-penalty states. The three Red non-death-penalty CC states are: North Dakota, West Virginia and Alaska.

Most Blue states lean both anti-gun and anti-death-penalty while most Red states lean both pro-gun and pro-death-penalty. I think this is an interesting correlation given the media controversy about the death penalty and gun control as "crime deterrents". I personally don't believe the death penalty is a crime deterrent (the first-degree murder rate is disproportionally higher in death-penalty states), but I do believe violent crime is more severely deterred in pro-gun jurisdictions.

It's really hard to tell how crime rates are affected by gun control laws and death penalty statutes. Oklahoma is both a CC state and a death penalty state. Is the death penalty statute deterring or elevating capital crimes? I never logically knew why the first-degree murder rate would be actually higher in death-penalty states. You have two legal situations in Oklahoma with possible effects on crime rates: lax gun regulations for the most part and tough criminal penalties.

Hhhmmm I live in NYS and it no longer has DP . Both my hubby and now daughter have their CC permits. Granted he's 64 and his grandfather was a NYSSCJ when he got his. That said daughter is in her 30's just got hers and so did SOL.

I bet CCWs are next to impossible to get in New York if you can even afford whatever fees there are. A CC state is a permit-less state that requires no license to carry a concealed loaded handgun in public at least out in the streets. In Oklahoma, I'm glad I don't have to ask permission to the cops or pay fees to enjoy a right that's already guaranteed by the Second Amendment. Low-income law-abiding Americans don't need to be financially burdened by CCW-associated costs. States with CCW requirements evidently figure a poor person's life is not even worth defending with a gun away from home.

the punks/criminals dont care about the laws, esp. the gang bang turds and the lifelong criminals.... a death penalty wont stop 'em, so when caught/convicted for murder, go right ahead and fry their asses ..

A few fiscal conservative GOP don't like the death penalty because of the long expensive appeals. They say just put the murderer in the joint until he rots. Housing costs in the joint for a lifetime is still much cheaper than capital case appeals. Most self-defense uses of guns aren't to stop a would-be capital murder from occurring. It's more often to thwart other violent crimes than premeditated murder with a specific victim targeted. Often a premeditated murderer knows the victim and has a clear motive like getting the will money or something.
