Caught red handed vandalizing my apple trees

I get the honor of thinking about him on each walk in and out of the stand in the pitch black, but luckily he's probably too full of apples to even think about taking a bite out of me. What's weird is that there are probably close to 200 apple trees on my property, so there are loads of fresh apples (not rotten by any means) all over the place, but he chooses to selectively eat the ones out of this tree. He spent about 3.5 hours in front of the camera last night. I have the sound on so you can hear some snorts of frustration when he's unable to snap the tree off at the base.

That's a big one. Glad we don't have any around here. I would wait til daylight to go hunt.

I asked a few friends and they think he's around 300-350lbs.

Great video. That is a big bear. At least he was able to shake some of those apples down. They are clever!

He's left so many of those deposits over the past few weeks that I have to watch my step very carefully.

I'm sure it is frustrating but I found the video cool as heck.

I've been there before trying to pull down a big limb to work my way to a smaller limb to snap off for a better shooting lane.

The second attempt when he is sitting there thinking it through on which one to grab for leverage is neat as hell.

Only thing missing was when the branch finally slipped his grip all the apples flying off in a catapault of apple missiles.

Good stuff, but yeah he's cool but not a meet me in the dark at the edge of trail kinda cool.

I don't mind at all that he's down there destroying things and being a bear. The vast majority of the trees on my property are wild, and his great great grandfather probably "planted" that tree anyway, so he kinda has rights to it.

As for shooting him, I shot a bear when I was younger, but I didn't enjoy the meat, so I can't see ever filling a tag on another.

Gotcha, by the thread title I though you wanted the apple trees more than the bear

    Pretty cool none the less

Haha, nah, that's a good tree for the wildlife, but I bet there's 30 apple trees within 50' of that one.

That's a good bear, I would say at least 350 if not more. I'd be buying a black bear tag for sure!

I'm going to give him a pass based on that I don't think bear tastes very good. Otherwise I'd be out there.

Haha I like when the apples fly everywhere.

Couple years ago I bought one of those acorn infused blocks you screw into the tree it was like 20 bucks just to see what I could get on trail cam.
I noticed it was gone next time only thing left was the mounting base.

I check the cam and 10 minutes after put it on the tree a black bear took it. That was the last time I ever put anything besides minerals pre season

I'll have to make it a point to try it again. It's been about 20 years. haha

I wonder if the bear you caught stealing the acorn block was just a fluke and you should try it again - maybe when they're on sale this time haha.

I might get 1, maybe 2 if I'm lucky, bear sightings prior to the middle of October (about the same time the bucks start filtering in more heavily), but once they start coming, I the ratio of bear to deer pics on camera is pretty equal, even if it's just one bear visiting. What's strange is that the bear presence doesn't seem to bother the deer at all.
