Checked the trapline again today and didn't see anything until the 3rd to the last trap. It's an average size male... weight was 22.5lbs and 50 inches long. I caught the 1st one and it was 47 inches long and 20.5lbs. My friend Caught this one in his trap. Its just great gettin out with friends and trapping... the lynx are just bonuses. I need to figure out how to post the pics on the tread rather than attaching them...frustrating.
That's awesome! They are such a cool animal. I feel dumb for asking this, but is there a difference between lynx, and bobcat? Or is it like the whole Mountain lion, cougar, ordeal (just depends on where you are)??? All I know, is you do not want to throw a snowball at one. It's not a good idea, no matter how sure you are that they are far enough away...
Bobcat and Lynx differ in that they are different species, but from the same genus. Here's a link to some of their differences. http://animals.howstuffworks.com/mammals/bobcat-vs-lynx.htm
Bobcats have shorter legs and fatter bodies probably due to the fact that they dont have alot of snow to go through and foods easier to catch. They also have spots and can get much bigger. A big lynx tops out at maybe 30lbs and bobcat I think can get up to around 45lbs. Im not sure on the weight of the bobcat but I think thats about right.
...Yes... I used to live in the Sierra Nevadas, in CA. We had plenty of them wandering around the barracks up there. Long story short. Sitting on the front steps, having a smoke, and a beer, turned into a race between a couple Marines to see who could get inside faster... One Hiss is all we needed... And I'm sure that cat had a good headache to boot! I was a pro at making snowballs.
