I caught my first sailfish this week 22 miles off the coast of Cancun, Mexico. We hooked 7 and boated 5 in less than two hours. My wife also landed a very nice one with a huge fin. I have always wanted to catch a sailfish and it was everything I had imagined. Took about 15 minutes to land and it cleared the water several times. We had three couples charter a boat and it was a great time. If you ever get the chance and like to fish, go for it!
Cool stuff me and a few other guys got a 170-ish pound blue marlin in Jamaica a few years ago, hell of a fight lasted about an hour and a half. There's nothing like it though.
I actually thought it was very cheap. With tips etc. we only spent a little over $800 total. Split that between three couples and it was a great bargain in my opinion. ($136 per person). We could have fished much longer but the water was kind of rough and some of the group were feeling a little seasick so we headed back early. I think we could have easily caught another 5 or 6 before our time was up but everyone got a chance to fight a fish so it was fine. Once rigged up, we never had to troll for more than 10 minutes without a hookup. I would love to go back in June when the Marlin move in.
