Called Animal Control and they said they wouldn't trap these dogs that have been hanging around because of the chance of catching a coyote. We have been having major problems with dogs in the community being aggressive toward my family and visitors. Animal Control did say if I made my own traps they would come get the dogs after I caught them. Caught one last night and called animal control, initially they were going to send someone out, then I get a call from the dog catcher and received a lecture about being inhumane to the dog because it is too cold outside. Its 31 this morning... give me a break... anyway I covered the stupid mutt with some carpet pieces to keep him from freezing. Its a Pitbull that has killed several of my neighbors goats in the past and I am suppose to be worried about whether the mutt is comfortable. I'd just assume shoot the dogs but I don't need a war with the neighbors. Of course it is cool that my homemade trap worked.
Okay... called A.C. again this morning and after being threatened with a charge of cruelty, I explained that this was an agreement I had pre-arranged with the Supervisor and the officer came out and removed the dog. Turns out some people leave their traps set without checking them and some dogs have died of starvation and exposure in traps in the past. I guess I can understand that. I covered the trap and fed the dog last night to make sure it was okay. Anyway, if the owner comes forward to claim the dog he will be charged with animal neglect or something like that and apparently the dog had no rabies tag so he will have to appear in court as well.
