My brother Rob Pottenger and owner of Idaho's Big River Outtfitters took time out of his busy schedule to take my wife Dee and I and the boys fishing Saturday for sturgeon on the Salmon River here in Idaho. Man did we have a blast. We hooked 4 big ones (couple of them broke us off with 80lb test) and landed 2 big fish, one over 5 foot and the big boy was right at 8.5 feet and 300lbs

our boys caught some nice bass as well, it was a great day of family fun

Daaaaang, that's awesome! Can you catch those on a fly rod? I guess one fish would take all day? Very cool, thanks for the pics.

they'd probably just spool ya and blow the line right off the reel. We use 300 feet of 80lb test minimum. Rob chases em down the river even through nasty rapids in the boat if need be, they can be mean fish when they dont wanna come to the boat, especially the big oversized (8 foot or better) that have 80 plus years of experience in breaking off fishermen.. Finally sturgeon are bottom feeders, big sucker mouths, no teeth, they clean the rivers of all debris! They have found human parts in sturgeon before.. LMAO and like John said they are a dinosaur. They are wicked cool though, by far the best fishing I have ever done, once you pull on one of these tanks no other fish ever feels the same imo.

Robs big boat is 1000.00 bucks a day and he brings meals, you bring your own beer or drinks.. its a 30 foot twin engine Jets, 650-700 horsepower. He takes 10 people with ease and one big sturgeon gives every guy several chances to fight it.. Arms do get sore but for 100.00 bucks a piece its pretty awesome scenery, class 4 and even 5 rapids when the water is higher and a chance to catch more than one monster fish for the day..on a good day we catch 4-5, its beautiful country. I tell you what if we could get enough guys together here to come out I will set us up a trip, it is an absolute blast! knowing my brother he'd try to add a little extra fishing time in too! maybe an extra day if he doesnt have one booked the next day..
