I think there is a random element, but businesses can also "buy" lures and I think some other thingies that in theory increases foot traffic... In otherwords, Nintendo revenue.
Being in IT also I see how people get attached to the games but I don't see fun in it. Me and the boy will be outhere trying to catch something in the woods if it's up to me.
The game uses google maps to display the area you are in. Your character is shown in the location you are personally standing using GPS. When a Pokemon appears you can try to catch it. Once they do this it brings up your camera... And the Pokemon appears like it is standing in front of you. I found these pics on google images. This is what it looks like on gps When you run into a creature it pulls up your camera like it's actually sitting in front of you. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I'm literally laughing, because I remember seeing people walking around with their phones out in town. (More than normal)
It's crazy... I noticed the same thing 2 days ago. Literally large crowds of people running down the street after these damn things. It's like the modern day walking dead. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Now I want to find a place that has people running around staring at their phones to try and 'catch' imaginary characters. Sounds entertaining. Instead, I'll have to settle for the rodeo this weekend. There will be a professional bull-jumper there. Because, apparently, that's a thing.
I bet if they had an app like this with bucks instead of weird japanese cartoon characters, more than a few of you would be playing.
The Cincinnati zoo requested to be a Pokemon free Zone because they are worried that people will climb into enclosures looking for Pokemon. I say let em go...
This game has got soo many overweight kids to get up and walk and all we can do is hate on it. The other day I saw a mother and son walking down the road pointing their phones in the air so I assumed they were playing. The mother said her and her son, who looked to be very couch savvy, walked every night to go look for pokemon with each other which I thought was pretty cool. The company Niantic had a game awhile back called "ingress," it would allow you to collect points at monuments while on vacation to show how much you really traveled. PokemonGo is the same thing but Niantic replaced the points with pokeballs and other stuff from the show. I was a kid when Pokemon came out so I'm all for it, have 45 out of 250 already. There is more to the game then just catching fictional characters, I've probably talked to more random people in the last week because of the game than I ever did before. Game also seems like a perfect distraction to the elections but that's just my opinion. sidenote, I read that this game had more followers than twitter in less than 48 hours.
Part of getting out and walking is doing it in a safe way. I'd rather people stay seated on their couch than be walking around with their head buried in the phone. I get the excitement since I grew up in the pokemon era, but I'm not about to start playing. I already spend too much time on my phone as it is.
I'm still waiting for the inevitable news reports of injuries, accidents or deaths attributed to the game. My bet is by Saturday.
Our local parks are now all of a sudden full of teens and early 20s something and I love that they are finally getting out and discovering new places and their city, I just wish they would look up from their phone will doing it. A few of the younger people in our office have been running around the office all week catching things. It looks fun. I kinda envy them.
There were 2 news stories on the radio this morning talking about injuries because of the game. 21 year old stabbed while playing... Refused medical attention so he could keep playing. 15 year old tried crossing highway during rush hour and was hit. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
