This may be the worst idea I've ever seen in my entire life...

$1 Billion that was supposed to last through the year and lasted a mere 2 days? Awesome, well done Washington.

Thank you Washington for using my tax dollars to make debt look inviting to the already financially upside down United States. I couldn't think of anything better to do with the 30% of my "income" that I don't take home, than to pay for someone to turn in their $1,500 clunker and recieve $4,500 worth of cash. Then they were required to purchase a 2009 vehicle, how many 2009 vehicles do you see for $4,500? I haven't seen one yet... Great! Let's impress the idea that a new and more fuel efficient vehicle is more important than managing your finances!

My guess is that our congressional idiots tossed the "cash for clunkers" out there prior to the National Healthcare Plan, just as a 16 yr old girl would tell her dad she was pregnant before saying "well it's not that bad, I just wrecked your car."

With our ambiguously mysterious, bowing, sack rider president making a mockery of this country, I'm ashamed at times to think that "we the people" put this guy in office.

I'll jump off the box now. Thanks.

I'm literally AGHAST when I come upon a car that still has an "Obama for president" sticker on it.... You had to have had REALLY been a moron to have wanted to vote for him in the first place, but it's literally unfathomable that someone would still own up to it.

Most people that have a car worth less that $4500 (myself included) are driving that POS for a reason. They can't afford a new car payment. Add in hard to get financing and its the perfect storm for record repo's a year from now.

I love it the program. I'm going to get $4500 for a car that burns oil profusely and doesn't even have a 1st gear. I probably couldn't get $450 for it. I'll get a car that gets twice the gas mileage and is much safer. Great program ;) .

You know they did add additional money to the program. Who would've of thought a program that gave away money would be so popular....what a joke.

Why do I think we are in for 31/2 years of financial pain and agony?

If nothing else... it's going to take 3.5 years to get out of the hole we're creating.

Good point, I'm a realist and that was overly optimistic.

When my wife gets home she will have a new car. Cash for clunkers, you gotta love that :) . We even took the new tires from the clunker and put them on the van, put the van's old tires on the clunker and still got $4500 for it :D . Great program.

I got $7854 for a 97 F-150. $3500 from Obammy, $3500 from dodge matching it, plus another $854 dollar cash incentive. I also took the new tires off my truck. The only thing I'm bummed about is I recently replaced the radiator, fan, fan clutch, and water pump so I'm kinda pissed about the $350 dollars I sunk in it on parts. Had I planned a little better I would have just towed it near the lot then drove it the last mile or two. Anyway it's theirs now and since they are scrapping it they probably won't care about the cracked head.

Finance17,000 for a brand new vehicle at 4.9% 60 months with a 3yr/36,000 mile warranty and lifetime powertrain, I'm ok with that.

Exactly how does stealing money from the taxpayer to assist someone else in taking on even more debt in the middle of a recession supposed to help the economy? All of the top ten cars traded were American made, eight of the top ten models purchased were foreign. Somebody throw me a frickin' bone here...

Since I am a taxpayer I feel I am just taking advantage of a program to get some of my own tax dollars back. Personally I am benefiting from it but I have read enough to know the program as a whole is probably not all it's cracked up to be.
