thoughts on the palmer trade anyone?

personally i thought the raiders overpaid for carson palmer. the guy hasn't had a good season in 3 yrs and he's 31 yrs old. i am thinking the raiders aren't getting much of an improvement over jason campbell here.

Considering Cambell is out with a broken bone, I think Palmer is an upgrade.

Good deal for both teams. Bengals got value out of something that wasn't gonna give them any while wearing their jersey. Raiders got a QB that's been there, done that. They needed a QB for the future, they got it. It's not like that first round pic was gonna be a high one where they could get what they needed (QB for the future).

They also are in a position to win NOW and for the future.

is anyone going to pick him up in fantasy? obviously it will take him awhile to get settled in the oakland system but he has a nice trio of talented young recievers to work with

Seems to be the popular reasoning. Time will tell. It sounds good to me but we'll see. I hope it works out for Palmer. He was drafted into a crappy team and that's where he's been. A fresh start might be the ticket.

I figured it was a 3rd to 4th round pick before reading the details of the story? TWO 1st round picks?!?! Shut the front door!

Palmer is a decent QB, but has yet to prove he is elite.

Its a first round pick in '12, and a second round in '13. Not two first rounders. There is no way the Raiders make the AFC title game this, or next season. Lay a bet on it. Still pretty pricey.

Palmer > Campbell. Thats not really saying much though. And like mentioned, Campbell is out right now anyway. Who else were they going to start? Pryor?

The Raiders are decent for the first time in a while. They didn't want to waste the season with Campbell hurt. I'm not sure how many good years Palmer has left, though. Guess we'll see.

Being a Chiefs fan and in the same division I was pretty excited for the Raiders to trade away their future. Palmer is in no way worth a 1st round pick let alone a possible second 1st round pick. They say he's going to play on Sunday against my Chiefs so we'll see what happens. Being a Chiefs fan, he'll probably pass for 400 yards and 4 touchdowns....

I think the bengals made out the best in this deal.....they got compensation for someone who wasn't really even there anyway. I would say it was a no brainer for Cincinnati...

The 2013 pick is actually a conditional 2nd rounder that can become a first if the Raiders make the AFC title game either this season or next. I agree with Vito and don't see the Raiders making the AFC title game.

I thought they only had to win a game in the playoffs, not the title game. but maybe i am wrong here. raiders do have a shot at winning afc west if they can overcome the chargers and if palmer plays well enough.

Per ESPN (The below quote is in the 4th paragraph). Also in my post I said MAKE the AFC title game, not WIN it.

Any way you cut it, Cincy got a heck of deal getting value for something that in their system had NONE!!! Can Palmer lift them to the playoffs and get a couple wins??? Who knows. Granted though, Cincy was a disaster with him last year, but not all was his fault. He and Hue Jackson have some history together so maybe it will work for them....
