    can't where I normally hunt...

If I get to hunt some private land this year, guess it would depend.

I have a concealed permit so I carry most other places.

I carry mine all the time hunting or not. We don't have any predators here except the cracked out 2 legged kind.

    No side arm for me.

If I ever did, it would be to shoot grouse...

I do if I'm hunting alone. There's a ton of yotes on my ground and I've seen them devour an adult doe in about an hour.

    Blessings.....Pastorjim

Arkansas just legalized carring a pistol when bowhunt this past season, but only if you have a concealed carry permit. You cannot use your pistol to take deer unless it is during rifle season. I plan to take my Beretta into the woods with me this season.

I've carried most of the time I'm out. But it also depends how long I plan on staying and where.

I think thats how it is here in Missouri. But your pistol can not have a laser sight or tac flashlight, if thats your flavor. Also I dont think a conceal permit is required.
Does any fellow Missourian know exactly what the "law" is on this?

MN does not allow carrying of a sidearm while bowhunting unless you are bear hunting. Even if you have a permit to carry (MN doesn't differentiate between conceal or open carry, btw).

I was wild pig hunting with my wife in the delta in south Alabama. I'd been shooting a crossbow and was down to two bolts when we called up a small pack of pigs. I took aim and missed. I loaded my last bolt and began to look for the bolt I had just shot, while my wife went to stalk the pigs.

A few minutes later I saw a 250 lb Boar Hog charge straight at me. By this time I was talking to my wife by VHF radio and I told her about the pig charging me.

I aim the bow, knowing that I had only one chance before he took me out. He was about 18 feet away when I began to squeeze the trigger but stopped when I heard a gun shot. The pig hit the ground and rolled just about two yards from my feet. My wife, knowing what a lousy shot I am, had shot the pig with her rifle from about 60 yards out

I commented on what a great it was and she jokingly said that it was a bad shot cause she missed the pig she was shooting at (meaning me.)

I learned two very important things that day.
Always carry a sidearm while bow hunting
But most important, not to upset my wife.

Missouri regs prohibit carrying while bowhunting... from the 2010 Archery Deer and Turkey Hunting regs:

We are allowed to in the great state of Wyo, but I don't unless I'm in grizzly country. I really don't see the need. There are a lot of mountain lions but I guess I'll deal with that in the highly unlikely event that ever happens.

I feel bad for you guys that live in IL and WI... starting july 1st in Wyo, open carry law comes into effect :D

    Yep, unless I'm in Ohio.

Never actually had to use it, but I did have mine drawn on a couple LARGE loose running dogs that came thru in the dark while I was turkey hunting with my longbow. They were growling and and huffing at me pretty good, but fortunately the moved on without further incident.

I do, but I've never had to draw it. I came close once, on a couple of massive dogs. Hopefullly I never need it, but it's there if I do.
