For the past two years I has been working in the financial industry and while I didn't mind the daily grind, I knew it wasn't what I saw myself doing for a career. I had been taking civil service exams for various police departments for the better part of three years and was hired and sworn in my the department from my hometown in NY, pretty much my dream come true. I report in tomorrow and each week day for the next two weeks to take care of payroll and paperwork before the academy starts the Monday following the Super Bowl. I know about half a dozen other guys going through the academy, one of which is my best friend, so should be a fun time, can't wait for it to start.

Awesome rob. Both my grand fathers were police officers in N.Y. One was NYC patrolman into the 70's. I remember as a kid when my father would get decent free tickets for ball games from his work. His father would just flash his golden clam to a usher and would always get moved by the dugouts. My moms father was a NY state detective. What's your home town? I grew up near Middletown in OC.

Z, I had those same thoughts about four years ago. I made the decision to pursue something that felt important to me and became a police officer. I love the job, and my ten hour shift feels about half that length each day.

Congratulations brother...just promise to always keep the badge beneath the man, for the badge declares your label but the man who wears it makes who you are.

Thanks guys, the first day went great and I'm really pumped about the academy starting in 2 weeks. I had more questions today than I had the last two years at my desk job.
