That was a total joke. At least Chipper got a respectable last at bat. Hell of a career Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk 2
Absolutely terrible and embarrassing call. I'm not a Braves fan, but I grew up watching Chipper play, and I wanted to seem him go out under a little better circumstances. However, the fan reaction was uncalled for.
Honestly, Chipper was out his last at bat... that too was a bad call. The game was full of bad calls honestly.
Will be interesting to see if anything else comes of the call, decision wise. Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk 2
I'm not sure of the ins and outs of it, but I'm pretty sure its done. The VP of the baseball league ruled to let the call stand.
Cardinals fan here. Bad call for sure but as chipper said post game, it was in the grey area. Chipper said his error was the the first of 3 and biggest error of the game and that was why they lost. My problem with the call was when the ump made the call. If he had called it early, as in, before they miss played it. It would have been made correctly by the rule. However, the outfield ump made the call when the player peeled off and the 3rd base ump waited until the ball fell to the ground before raising the hand for the call. It looked to me as though the ump was a fan first and ump second. No room for that in professional sports. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk 2
Under normal effort is the rule. It is a judgement call so from that pov, i agree with the call but the timing of the out call is my problem. The protest was dropped and the protest in this situation could not be upheld due to the playoffs and the winning team is playing tomorrow. The protest was disallowed right after the game by Joe Torre because it was a judgement call. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk 2
Harold Reynolds does make a good argument to why it was a good call on mlb network. But i don't think it was under normal effort and it should have been a base hit. But as a cardinals fan , i'm glad it was called the way it was.:D Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk 2
Braves fan here, I agree the call was terrible. but the game was sloppy all the way around. How Gonzalez does not get tossed is a total mystery to me...
Well before 3rd base ump, about the same(that he peeled off) time from the left field ump. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk 2
I root for the Cardinals but married to a Braves fan.... I think Gonzalez was completely within his rights here... These umps were supposed to be the "best of the best", yet I don't think I've seen so many bad calls in one game (granted I don't watch a lot of baseball).
What were some of the other so called bad calls? I do watch about 60-70 baseball games a year. Not pros though. Mostly high school or high school aged kids.
I dont' think it was as bad of a call as everyone else. I guess I'm 50/50 on it. I think it's more of the timing and how it happened is what makes it look worse than it really is. The LF and SS mis communicated at the last second as the ball dropped. The SS was clearly established under the ball. Normal effort? ehhhh that's the grey area. That and it was the farthest ball outside of the infield where a infield fly was called and ball dropped this year (by 50 feet). But I can see a case where if the SS wanted to intentionally drop the ball and try to double up 3rd and 2nd there would be a decent chance of doing so...... hence the rule. Not as big of a deal as being made out to be IMO. Been worse calls
Yeah, just didn't seem like "normal effort" to me. In my opinion it was a flub by Kozma, that was mitigated by the late call. My understanding it it's supposed to be called by the ump before the play happens, not as the ball is about to hit the ground. Another bad call was the safe call by the first base ump on Jones' last at bat, and the first bad call was late timeout by Ross that allowed a home run.
The bigger story to me was the maturity the Braves fans showed in the aftermath. Braves lost that game because of 3 errors. The call was bad, but there's no guarantee that the next guy would of knocked a run in.
