I need to start backing up all my files, pictures, music, etc before its too late.:( I've thought about buying an external hard drive but I've been seeing the Carbonite ads on TV and liked that idea a little more. http://www.carbonite.com/

Anyone use Carbonite? Its $55 a year and backups your computer automatically.

Is there a way to routinely and easily backup my PC with an external HD?

I guess I'm leaning more towards carbonite only because the external HD could fail, be stolen, or damaged by fire. I also like the thought of it automatically being done for me.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

Carbonite. If your house burns down/gets hit by a tornado/burglars, etc. an external HD won't do you can good.

Never heard of that before. Offsite storage would be ideal. Do you use this personally, Justin? I need to get some additional backup setup, but I would keep externals in a fireproof safe, or possibly offsite as well.

Mention the word "Rush" at checkout for a discount. Although all of you probably knew this anyway...:-)

I currently use iDrive.com for my off-site backups, but I'm switching to Carbonite soon since they have unlimited data storage for the same price. They all basically work the same way though. You install their app on your machine, set up the parameters (what you want to backup, and how often) and then that's it. The backup program runs on it's own, transfers your data to their storage location and you're done. In the event you need to recover data, just log into their website, select the files you want to download, and go from there.

I used to have several external HD's that I used for backing up important files, but after I had two of them go bad on me I decided enough was enough and switched. I still use externals for additional data storage just b/c they're cheap, but not for backups.

Sounds like Carbonite is the way to go. I signed up for the trial period but I will purchase once the trial period is up.

MN Jay...thanks for the heads up on the discount. ;)
