Im going to start fletching my own shafts again. What is a good shaft cleaner? I asked all three local shops and got 3 different answeres. One said rubbing alcohol, another denatured alcohol, and the last one said acetone. So whats best? Or should i just drive the extra 15 or 20 miles and get the bohning SSR cleaner?

I use regular acetone, (nail polish remover). It works just fine. I don't think it's worth driving all that way to get something that probably works just the same and costs more than acetone. JMHO

Degenerated Alcohol from some of the various Arrow websites. They also state is not good to use acetone.

New shafts, I use SOS pad and then rinse with water and wipe clean.

Old shafts with glue residue on them,I scrape with dull knife, then use acetone to clean off old glue. If it is stubborn glue, I will use a very fine 1000 grit wet dry paper and lightly clean glue off, and then treat it like a new shaft with SOS and water.

I use the debonder as well followed by a simple arrow cleaning solution (the name/brand escapes me at the moment).

Denatured alcohol to clean shafts with no glue residue.

Acetone to clean shafts with glue residue.

I've always used acetone. Works well for me, and I've never had an issue.

Have scuffed new shafts with an SOS pad for years, rinse and let dry then wipe with denatured alcohol. Works every time. Old arrows use a knife or scissors, scape all the old glue and fletching off then wipe down with denatured alcohol.

Another tip for you is if your wanting to use a fast setting glue, go to wally world and get some Loctite super glue gel. As good or better than any commercial glues out there and get about twice as much for half the price!!
