Help me out... I want to buy a new one... I want a nice one but know very little of whats new and the technology.

I'd like to stick with Garmin.... What model offers the best bang for the buck?

I want at least a decent one, not a stripped one with no options.

    Thanks.

I have the Garmin 255W and love it. Super easy to use, widescreen and great price. I know Bass Pro had it on sale recently but not sure if they still do. I was able to use it right out of the box without reading any directions. This unit speaks street names which I tought was useless when purchasing but now really love that fact. I am also able to save locations to a custom address book. Definetly recommend this model!

Any Garmin Nuvi that is in your price range will fit the bill just fine!

Here is list of the current available models: http://www.garmin.com/garmin/cms/site/us/nuviseries

I have a stripped down Garmin Nuvi 200. I got it from my father-in-law for Christmas two years ago. It has been one of the better Christmas gifts I have received in recent years. Some say TomTom is a solid choice but I can't really comment on these since I haven't experienced these units first hand.

I tend to agree. We have a Garmin Nuvi and it's everything we need. I'm not sure of the model but it's a year old now. I'd imagine improvements since.

Nope, buy it, install it, and you are set.

The Garmin Nuvis seem to be fetching the best reviews, although Tomtoms are awesome as well. 3 of my friends recently installed TomToms in their trucks, and I have to admit...they are super sweet.

BUT, I just forked out $300 for a Garmin 60CSx, supposedly the best handheld gps unit available....we shall see. I think it will really help with hunting, and be an EXTREMELY beneficial assett when fishing/bowfishing.

I use a wide screen Garmin Nuvi at work. It works great. I'll have to check on the model.

I agree with many others here. Garmin Nuvi is about as good as you get for the money. There are various models within this series depending on what bells & whistles you want. But they're quality built & very intuitive.

Scott - that's the unit I have. Any reason you're looking to upgrade? I really only use mine to get from Point A to Point B and didn't feel that I needed a lot of bells and whistles.

I guess my questions is what are you looking for that the 205W doesn't have?

If I may ask, why do you guys need a GPS in your car? I drive all over the state with my job and never even considered buying one.

The girlfriends GPS, is a Nuvie 750, she says the best price is at costco.

I make fun of her for using it, but its kind of neat get somewhere without having to worry about thinking or map planning.

I have a Garmin Nuvi 260W. If you are looking to upgrade from the 205W I would think this would be a good choice. It has quite a few bells and whistles (says street names, etc.). Personally, I can't get around without it...just ask Dubbya :whip:

Scott- Have you considered using your cell phone instead? Most Cell phones have GPS chips now and you can use them. I have GPS on my Blackberry and VZnavigator on my Moto push to talk phone with talking turn by turn dorections, traffic updates, gas price updates etc, and the unit never needs to have updates. Sprint should have something similar.
