I don't know how many guys we have on here that like to tinker with the music in their vehicle, but I know I do. I've gone through multiple head units, amps, subs, you name it.. Anyways, I'm about to make a change. CDs are a thing of the past, Digital Media Recievers are the thing fo the future. That's right, no CD slot! Just USB, Aux, and SD capabilities. Hook up you iPod, mp3, flashdrive, SD card..whatever holds music and listen away. Does anybody own one of these things yet? I'm wanting to get one but I haven't found any real feedback or reviews on them. I think people are scared of the fact that they can't use CDs (that they never listen to). In case any of you fellas are living in caves, here is what I'm talking about. :D http://www.crutchfield.com/p_020FZ709/Clarion-FZ709.html?showAll=N&tp=5684
I used to keep up with car audio in my younger days but only have a cd head unit now. But I like the looks of these units. Alpine has always been good to me so I would consider one of ther units.
I didn't know they were out, but I figured this was coming. All they need now is to make it where you can "tag" a song on the radio (like the ipod does now) and download it strait to the Digital Media Receiver and then they (itunes, Sirius, ect) just bill you at the end of the month
I thought most CD players came with a audio jack now that you could play any MP3 device in? Seems like the best of both worlds to me. Will, i thought all your backwoods music was on vinyl? :D
You guys wouldn't even believe me if I told you my 42" flat screen is sitting on a 1970 Zenith console record player. I can listen to Willie Nelson and play PS3 at the same time :D
Almost every head unit that has come out in the past 3 or 4 years has had an aux hookup....lol I haven't listened to a CD in years.
Will, I've been managing/installing professionally for the last 13 years and while I dig the new units, I'm with Caleb's point of view. Any disc player with an aux. input gives me what I want. Plus, I have the Sirius installed, so my choices are already broader than I can keep up with :D And like all new gadgetry, if you wait a while, you'll save ridiculous loot!
Josh, I know exactly where you're coming from. A CD reciever will do the same thing...I just like the new style because, well.......it's new, and I want to try it out. The device in my Clarion that ejects CDs broke about 8 months ago, and I have never even tried to fix it. I just roll with radio and aux. That's why I want one of the new units. I think they are really cool. Have you or any of your customers had these installed yet? I can't really find many legit reviews (not that I have looked really hard). I think I may go by the shop tomorrow and check one out in person.
