So do you think the NFL is too strict on who can (those who pay) say the words "super bowl"? Every radio or tv ad I hear always refer to it as the big game. Everyone knows what game they are talking about so why all the restrictions. You would think that if bars can use the words in their ads for coming there to watch, it would only generate more interest in the superbowl. Instead they can't even say the word, it doesn't make sense to me why the NFL wouldn't want to promote it.

Google your hometown + super bowl party + bars and restaurants.

I just did. Nearly all of them mention the super bowl.

From my understanding in the media if you use the term "Superbowl" you have to pay a licencing fee to the NFL

NFL is uber-strict about terms like SuperBowl and Super Sunday... they even tried to copyright "The Big Game" cuz all the bars were no longer advertising superbowl parties, they'd put out come see the big game here!!!! and etc... its ridiculous that you can't be free to use WORDS in this country...
