Its hard to get more then a half mile from a road in most of the public land tracks I want to hunt. I know they have deer, but know they also get hunted. What are some other ideas when getting away from the crowd might not be an option? Im new to public land hunting but plan on doing a lot of it the next few years.

Sometimes a lot of guys will be crowd up next to thickest on the public (not a bad idea) so those areas can get crowded. Move up on the terrain and find more subtle cover edges.

Couple things I have heard over the years that make sense: get in earlier than the others; go farther than the others; go in weather that others won't tollerate...
I have tried and had some success with these but I have very little experience(because I have to wait for invitations unfortunately).

    Good luck!

PM sent...not because its top secret but because its to big to post in just 1 or 2 pictures. Long skinny piece of public land along a river.

I've had good luck with crossing water, seems most aren't willing to get wet. Think of any sections that suck to get to and that's where the pressure will not be.

Can you have someone drop you off/pick you up where other people can't park and too far to walk? Other people are probably doing the same but it would thin the crowd a bit.

If you're interested I'll take a look at your property. See if Virginiashadow and myself come up with the same areas.

Here's a trick, while hunters go in for lunch, that could be a key for the deer to move. I would pack a lunch and be quiet. Most hunters leave the woods for lunch an could spook deer up to you.
