I sure hope so. I have made shots when I just couldn't find initial blood because I was looking in the wrong spot, not because it wasn't there. I even shot one once and gave up looking... then re-thought about what I had done over lunch and went back to take one more look in a different place and there the whole time was an enormous blood trail and my opening morning deer was 35 yards away. I am guessing a lot of deer get lost that way, only this one is responsible enough to take a break, honestly ask for help, go back with a dog... That is T. Graham Brown cool to me.

Either way, there'll be no ridicule from me.

I actually carry an arrow with a field tip on it with me and if I cant find anything to difinitively mark where the deer was standing, have shot the field point into the ground to mark where the deer was standing. Finding initial blood can sometimes be the most difficult task.

What makes you think that the broadhead did not open?

Turned out the arrow on that deer somehow hit the backside front leg and the arrow deflect about 15 yards to the right of where he was standing... then he went left. He had a cut across his shin where the blade sliced it open... weird. I wish I had a picture but to top it off, he had a spiraling antler. The GW said it was from a blow fly bite while the antler was developing.

Anyway... has anyone heard any news?.. waiting... I hope we didn't run her off by being a bunch of over opinionated, never made a mistake or blown a shot ourselves, elitist jerks.

Sorry guys, been a really busy weekend.
I did find her, about 400 yds from where I lost the blood trail. The coyotes had gotten to her. The only way I found her was I heard them "yipping" in a place i've never heard them before. This is my first wasted deer, and to me it is a BIG deal. I doubt i'll quit hunting, but I have learned to take the words "calm down and pick your spot" seriously. I've read on other forums that it is common. I'm not blaming the broadhead, i remembered as i was climbing into the stand i dropped the arrow and the broadhead hit the dirt. I didn't bother to inspect it. I see know that there was dirt lodged into the grooves so it wouldn't expand. This whole situation is 100% my fault. I blame it on nerves and inexperience. To all of you who offered usable advice thank you very much. Keep a look out for more posts from me b/c i'm pretty sure this won't be the last bonehead mistake I make!

Good job piecing it all together and learning the improtance of never being too thorough with your equipment. Some things have to be learned and it sounds like you have. Shoot a lot to keep your confidence up becasue at the moment of truth its all you have to go on. Good luck.
