I live in the neighborhood surrounding the open piece of property in the middle marked with an orange circle. I see no houses attached to the property in the middle. I went and walked part of the property in attempts to find some
"no hunting" signs with possibly an address or phone number. But I found nothing, no evidence of anyone leaving trash out there, no 4 wheeler sign, no anything. I pulled up the county mapping system today and could find the names of everyone living around it but nothing for this piece of property. I need some help guys! I would really like to bowhunt this piece of property as it is just a 400 yard walk through the woods for me and it has a tremendous deer population. Any thoughts on how I could find out who owns it?

I'd say contact the county and see if they have a plat book that you can buy. I know that sometimes the web based programs don't always get everything added, but the plat books do. I've run into this situation before, and that's what we did. And actually this fall we found that a couple of really old property lines had been marked wrong for years. Ended up that a friend's property we hunt was a little bit bigger than originally thought.
But the plat books show just about everything you'd want to know. Could be that it is owned by the state or county due to taxes not being paid, etc., in which case, you're golden!:nana:

    Brett,
The county courthouse should be able to help - depending on their workload and disposition. My mother works as a deed title researcher in Cecil County, MD. Do you have a parcel # or some other identification #? She is pretty handy with finding out this kind of info. Switch to PM or email if you prefer.

Kevin, I could not find a parcel # at all. I searched and searched. I found all the surrounding property owners with their names, etc. I want a name so I can ask for permission. The place is dynamite and would be the only private property I would have ever had access to on a regular basis.

Slick, thank you for the information....if I cannot figure it out online, I will have to go to the plat book. I looked at my property and found out that I owned a little more than I thought. I own both sides of the creek that runs on the bottom of my little 1.5 acres...:)

In Virginia, at the very least you have to acquire verbal permission to hunt a property, even if it is unposted. I need to find an owner.

Even in the case of state, county, or township owned land? here it's considered public and open unless posted in those cases. Maybe you can get someone from the county to give you permission? Don't know what to tell you on that one

For my state, it town information, as they hand out the tax bills.

I would go to the town, if it weren't available over the internet
(some towns have/are converting) and look at the tax maps.
Then you can get the address of the owner.

Send me the quads and I'll help you, say around Oct of this year!!;)

I never had a problem with the local courthouse. That's what I do when their is some land I am wondering about.

Southern, only about 20-25 minutes. In fact, the first home my wife and I looked at was in the Catharpin. I also used to work about 10 minutes from there for 5 years.

Dubbya--thanks. I have someone looking into it for me tonight. If I cannot get the facts, I will go inquire next week. I am excited because like I said earlier, I have never had private property to hunt on a regular basis. If it works out I won't know what to do with myself!
