I have the HF-M41 and really like it. Great in low light as well.
Now sure what the M50 has.

Yes canon is a great camera. It has a cinematic feel to it and high dynamic range. It also has a really good quality. I have a Canon Vixia Hf m 31 and I am selling it. I dont know if you would be interested but its being sold for $700 on the internet and I am wanting to sell it for $550. It works great no damage to it. It has image stabilization, flash memory and great picture quality for its price. Just message me back if you are interested. Thanks!

Here is a link to look at the features for my camera:

I think as long as your spending over$500 you should like the camera to start out with. I may out grow it but then you'll really know what you want. Some serious camera out there for $1-3k but that's for a cameraman.

Same with Afflicted. Its best to start out with a smaller camera because you will learn so much and plus it has awesome quality. Thats what I did first and now I own a Sony Nx5 which is a professional camera and a canon 5d mark ii. I looked and researched for 2 or longer months for each of my equipment. I was worried I would make the wrong decision too haha but it all works out. The Canon Vixia is a great camera for anyone especially people wanting to start out. Still let me know if you are interested in my Vixia ha.

Yeah, I don't know the pricing but I think your M31 would be a great starter camera. It's really cool to be able to go home and re live the hunt yourself and with friends.
