    Cannot catch a break

This was my very first archery season ever and let me say that I am hooked. In the past years I only gun hunted in Wisconsin. I have seen more deer this year than all my years combined. But I cannot seal the deal this year, opening weekend of the Wisconsin archery season I stick a big doe but I hit her high and was not able to find her. It happens to everyone and I learn from my mistakes.

During the rut I have seen plenty of good bucks, just yesterday morning I saw three shooter bucks and one buck with a missing antler. The shooter bucks that I have had in range there is just something that goes wrong. I was drawing back on a buck in early November and he saw me draw and I got busted, or I had a buck that was behind me but I had tree branches in the way, or this morning I had a good 8 pointer coming straight at me so I stand up draw my bow and when I try to stop him when he is broadside I grunt at him and he takes off. I had him at 15 yards and I wasn't about to take a shot when he was trotting. It's just frustrating but that's the way hunting goes. If it was easy it would be called killing not hunting. Hopefully I have some better luck during gun season.

I hope people are having better luck than me.

Keep ur head up. With all of the close encounters you have been having, it's just a matter of time before everything falls into place. Good luck with the rest of the season.

well you say you "can't catch a break" but then in the next sentence you say "thats the way hunting goes".

You need to figure out which way it is.

But in reality, that IS the way hunting goes, I'm sure many people here didn't connect on their first season of archery hunting. It wasn't until my 3rd season that I harvested my first doe. 6th season for a mature buck.

Just keep at it, DON'T get discouraged, and eventually it will pay off.

As said before...thats hunting and things happen...I've been bowhunting for about 5 years now...I've taken 3 bucks...missed 3...had numerous times when deer just wouldn't stop...been busted in the tree a few times...you just get back out there and keeping doing it...because its something you love to do...and when you connect all those misses/bad situations/days make it all worth it! Good luck guy!

Don't let it get to you. I know its frustrating...but it will come. One of the biggest Bucks I killed with a bow I seen him 3 time before I got him....the first two times I stopped him and both times he turned but wasn't a good shot to take. Just keep on trying...! Atleast you seeing them....thats a good thing!
