Well, had a rough week in Canada. We had a great time and lots of stories, but had some hiccups along the way. The important thing was I got to spend a week with my Dad, who has a rare eventually terminal leukemia. He's been doing pretty good, and we booked this hunt 2 years ago while he was in the hospital and things didn't look well. So we drove 14 hours up near Sioux Lookout, Ontario and had a blast. He was using his .300 win mag as he can't pull a bow and didn't want to use his crossbow. He shot a bear on day 3, got to see 5 or 6 and just had a blast. On the last day they called in a wolf for him and he aced it. Since I was still out bear hunting, he went back and walked a quarter of a mile along a logging road and shot a grouse to boot!

My hunt didn't go as well, unfortunately. I saw 7 wolves, and snap shot the smallest of them all with my .30-06. My hunt for a bear with my bow continues, as I was the first person they've had in 16 years to never even see a bear. Unreal. My scent was great motion the best I've ever been in a stand. Not sure what happened, because I know I was much better on all of that than my father who shot one in a ground blind. But that's hunting I guess.

Learned some valuable lessons on booking hunts with outfitters. I can't stress enough to be in constant contact with your outfitter. If you need anything special, I just didn't think about the fact that they were using single wide tree stands that a man who is 6'7" 340 lbs ain't all that secure in. They were expecting to make accommodations for my Dad, but forgot how big I was. We ended up using a wood stand they had, but had to scramble a bit. Also make sure you are getting lists of things to bring.

In the end had a great week with my Dad, a lot of memories we'll never forget. We had some awesome guides who worked their tails off. I have lots of years to go after bears, he doesn't, and if it had to be one of us, I'm sure glad it was me that got skunked on a bear. [IMG][IMG][IMG]

Pretty cool. I'm sure you and your pops will enjoy the memories of this hunt. Time with family pretty much trumps everything else in my book. Thanks for sharing your story.
