Yes... I love looking at pictures of bucks with their racks not showing and guessing. Next one please !! :p Tim
Well that too but then I would have to admit I was wrong. I really didn't want to go this route !! LOL Tim
if you look at the 1st winter picture in 2010... the rack is impressive but bodywise not too impressive. Then you have the second winter picture and wow on both accounts. If you had cut the racks off both pictures, not told us they were the same buck and had us guess age on both pictures... I bet most would have aged the first picture as a younger buck. I doubt anyone would have stated they were the same buck. He is a very impressive buck !! Have you gotten any pictures this year of the other good buck in the second 2010 winter picture?? Tim
I agree Tim. I think its also the effect of the IR vs the flash camera. The IR can tend to make them look bigger, IMO. Nope! And, we won't! My nephew killed him the second to last day of the WI bow season in January.
Why did you zoom the picture of the buck you wanted aged? Makes It tougher sizing the body don't It? Why not just crop out the rack and not the rest of the surroundings? In your pic with his rack on and not zoomed/cropped his body looks more Impressive to me. None the less you stumped my ass!!
Because I was trying to get him alone and not the other deer in there. I've always felt that, in 98% of cases, aging a deer over 3.5 on the hoof is no more than just a guess. Unless one has a history with a buck, they're just throwing out a wild guess.
Yeah It's real tough. Even with seeing him with the rack on I still would've never guessed him at the age he Is. He just don't have that big build look to me like he does In them other pics. I agree too, IR pics make any animal look bigger. They sure do on bear.
I agree with this 100000% You show me a person who believes that he can age 3.5+ y.o. deer on the hoof with any degree of accuracy, and I'll show you a guy who is probably full of his own bullchit. Case and Point: 2009 2011 There is no man in the free world who would look at the 7/28/2011 picture (alone) and believe that they're looking at a 5.5 year old buck. To me, "aging" bucks is a complete joke. If you don't have trailcam pics or sheds documenting his age and antler progression, there's really no way that you can "age" a buck on the hoof with any degree of accuracy. Obviously, any moron can tell the difference between a yearling and a mature deer, but let's be real here - when you're talking about 4, 5, 6, 7+ year old animals, you're just looking at the rack and guessing.
I had forgot about your nephew getting a buck last winter. He was a very good one also !! You've got some very good bucks roaming your area. Tim
