    My vote for best sock with the best warmth to weight and great moisture wicking would be Dahlgren alpaca socks
    You gotta get the backpacker or i think maybe they're called field or hunting. They are unbelievable

    Just picked up a couple pair of Darn Tough socks. They're are really comfortable. My plan is to slowly transition out the ol Hanes and start getting more darn tough. I do have a question though. I've always heard about using liners with wool socks. To keep something between you and the wool. Is this what y'all do or is that even necessary. You'll have to forgive me. I was raised in FL. Wool clothing isn't a common thing.

    I have some Under Armour blends and Cabelas and Filson.

    My favorite is my 100% merino wools by Filson. They do have a little nylon and spandex in them for stretch and retention but they are so dang comfy

    I have merino wool socks and I like hem but the warmest socks that I have found are alpaca wool. They're not cheap by any means but they are the warmest and most comfortable I have found.

    I don't for everyday use have used liners with them while hunting.I just came back from Florida a few weeks ago wore a pair of mid weight wool socks and no liners
