I have an older single cam bow, Is it possible to replace the idler and cam with a different dual cam setup?
Yes you can. You’ll have to figure out what axle/bushing/spacer setups fit and have custom string and cable made. I’ve done it before with both single and dual cam bows.
piss off, Sota. is that cost prohibitive? I'm curious what all that would cost vs. just buying a new bow or gently used newer used bow. I know a new custom string/cable system is probably well over $100 (maybe double,) and then new limbs, cams, etc. Gotta be over $500 for all that right? Seems like a ton of money to throw down just to polish a turd. Unless, OP- does your bow hold some sentimental value? Like it was a family members or something? If it has sentimental value then by all means put as much as you want into it; but otherwise you can pick up a nice newer used flagship model for maybe $5-600 or even a budget bow like a Mission, PSE or Bear (all make nice bows that perform excellently) for about $500 or less.
Just purchased a new bow, and my other was a Browning Nitro 80 which still works well. I was just curious if it could be done and maybe put 50# limbs on it for the wife.
Ah, I see. Well FWIW 2 years ago I bought my wife a gently used Mathews Jewel for $400. Looked brand new. Didn't even have to replace the strings. Guy on eBay has a pretty good store. I think he's out of OK? Something like that.
I did it with a old Ross CR337 and then a 334.... both turned out perfect...used Elite cams....it was a few years back...I'll look for a pic
