Just wondering if anybody know if I can change the 6'' brace height on my Mathews Monster to a 7''? Maybe by changing the limbs or something? I'm hitting my forearm from time to time and worried when the temperatures get cooler and I need to wear heavier clothing. Thanks
Brace height can't be changed. They make short brace heights because folks buy a bow based on how fast it shoots.
I'm not sure if the 6.0 / 7.0 brace on the Monster is just determined by limb length or if it's also limb pocket angle. It may require new limbs, a new riser or both (a new bow). You can change it by creating a Frankenbow but you'd better be a really good tech expert to do it right. Realistically, no, you'd be better off selling your bow and buying one that is the brace you want.
If the only problem you're having is hitting your forearm then the issue probably isn't the brace height of the bow. I shot a 6" brace height bow last year and don't think I hit my arm once. In my experience the biggest issue with forearm slap seems to be with the shooter's grip. Gripping the bow too tightly, or being overextended at full draw (draw length too long) could possibly cause your issue.
Your DL is likely too long. There is one bow out there that you can change the BH on. Ugly as sin, but...... http://www.rytera.com/2011/seeker.htm
Check your form and/or draw length...I shoot a Diamond Dead Eye which has a 6 1/8" brace height and I was hitting my forearm continuously...I had someone critique my form and that fixed the problem...improper grip and I was rotating my elbow in.
Thanks for the advise. I called Mathews earlier and John told me the same thing. Check my grip. I don't hit my arm often and when I do it's minimal so I'm going to work on my form some more. I ran into an old "know it all" type guy that once I told him which Monster I had he said sell it:-/ wth For owning the bow for over six months I can count on my fingers how many times it's hit my arm, so I've got some work to do.
While you're practicing your form, you could always get yourself a wrist guard. It'll keep the bruising and welts to a minimum till you get it figured out. No sense in banging up your forearm. If you do end up getting one, you can repurpose it during hunting season and wear it over your bulky clothes. It will work really well at managing that area of clothing. Some clothes even comes with one built into the forearm like the jackets from ScentBlocker.
I bought that Scentblocker suit months ago when it was 95degrees down here. That suits the ****z, can't wait for it to get cool enough to wear it. I do have an arm guard but really don't need it. I was just worried that when I do have the heavy cloths on I'll be missing shots.
Your DL is too long, what about a pic or two of you at full draw. I like a little bend in the elbow. you should not lock it
I've always has some issue with pain in the palms of my hands and I think because my bow is set at 70#, I'm doing something with my grip once my palm starts hurting. I'm going to lower the weight to 65# and see if that helps.
What would be the benefit of changing a brace height? Wouldn't that change your arrow length anyway? Maybe I'm missing something.
