Deer & Deer Hunting Get a one yr. subscription. From there on out, just re-read them each month, year to year. That's what you're doing, anyways. There's only so much about this stuff that you can write about. D&DH is the best one I've read.
Alright thanks I got a subscription to F&S for xmas than I went to bps today and decided I wanted something else to read...Thats looks to be a winner
D & DH hands down. It isn't overloaded with ads and really gets down to the science of deer better than any other magazine I've read.
I like Bowhunting world. Good bowhunting magazine that helps keep me up with new bowhunting stuff. http://www.grandviewoutdoors.com/bowhunting
Why doesn't Bowhunting.com start it's own publication? Not looking for technical reasons, it was just a thought.
Because we're a website - sworn enemy of the printed magazine, and the reason that magazines are outdated, have shrinking subscription numbers, and are slowly dying. I let all my magazine subscriptions lapse. Everything I need to know I can find out on the Internet, for free, and quicker than it can be printed in a magazine. Viva the Intarweb.
Because in order to write an article and have "credibility," you have to have a wall of MONSTERS, and appear to have been a GREAT hunter. Even if all the animals were taken in a HF enclosure/cage, as long as they look big, and you have a picture of you with them, YOU can right an article. Nobody is gonna buy anything that Jeff wrote because he's never killed a MONSTER buck, even if he would right a better article than Chuck Adams or Myles Keller, nobody is gonna read it because it doesn't have "credibility." There are a few guys here who could right VERY GOOD articles regarding how to properly tune you bow, how to use topographical features to locate deer, etc, but if the name isn't one that has been known to the community or not attached to a world class buck or 10, it's not going to get much credibility.
I do agree that when I really want some information I do turn to the web. But I can't always take my computer with me while I am sitting on the pot! Sometimes you just want some alone time with some eye candy and sorry I don't do the naked girl thing (or boy. just had to clear that up). Plus isn't there some kind of cave man satisfaction from beating your enemy at his own game??
I ****, wipe and get out of there. The last thing I want to do is sit there longer than I have to smelling my own crap and reading a magazine.
If it's a GOOD DEUCE, you don't need a magazine, you need an air-freshener and TWO courtesy flushes......... I agree, though, I like my magazines when I'm traveling or whatever, though probably more than half the articles I read, I could probably have written better myself. On the other hand, the great thing about the internet is the interaction, and the ability to absorb some information, ask a few questions about it, and then learn or at least gain other people's perspectives (right or wrong) on that same subject matter. This is where the "WWW" really is KING!!! Suprisingly one of the better productions (magazine-wise) out there IMHO is Bowhunt America, and it's FREE in a couple of the shops I frequent..... :D
As long as it is my own stench.... I've always thought it smelled good. :D Plus, it is the only room in the house I get privacy.
Magazines and other printed material give you great information you didn't know you were looking for. On the web you are using search engines and looking for something specific, and it is great for that, but I like stumbling across great info and you need printed material for that.
D&DH vote here. If you HAVE to have a "bowhunting" mag, I'd get Peterson's Bowhunting. As an bowhunting outdoorsman, it's D&DH, F&S, and then Peterson's Bowhunting for me. Anymore than that, and I don't have time to read them enough to value the subscription cost.
