I noticed this on one doe last year, but this year it is on at least 5 different deer. I have no idea what it is and no one I have asked does either. Any help on what it is or could be would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!
Appears to be ticks or some other parasitic organism. That is one of the few areas the deer would not be able to remove it from themselves. Note the hair loss also around the "bumps". My guess is thats due to there being little blood supply left
oh my god, I'm not a squeamish person but that made my skin crawl. I'm like Sam, that has to be the one bug I hate with a passion other then a mosquito. Bad thing is and I don't really know why but I've heard all over the united states that ticks have been worse then they ever have been before. They are so bad in Canada that they are turning full grown moose anemic and killing them on the hoof. Every time I've gone in the woods I have just about drenched myself in Permethrin, thinking about buying some of that Elimitick clothing as well.
