Some people will tell you a trail camera is a trail camera. Not true, especially when you are talking about the CamTrakker MK-10. Yes, there are a lot of great trail cams out there on the market but, none seem to have the advanced manageability that this one does. This is a camera for a micro manager to say the least.
CamTrakker is located in Watkinsville, GA. And is home to a very durable well built camera that carries a 3 year warranty and loaded with features that allow you to mange this camera the way you want it to work. Starting with the fully enclosed, weatherproof unit featuring sound-damping foam to minimize noise and further protect the camera and the locking flange keeps unwanted hands from messing with your settings on the camera. The rope ratchet I found to be a great feature. Simply hook the rope to one side of the camera and thread it through the ratchet and pull. It’s that simple and no more trying to hold the camera in place and tighten with one hand only to get aggravated or drop your camera.
The camera runs off a rechargeable lead-acid battery which is easily recharged by plugging it into the included charger and plugging into a convenient receptacle near by. The unit when shipped comes with two allowing you to have one on hand charged and ready. I have gotten well over a month on a charge and still had power to spare with mine. Each battery is good for several months and up to 2,500 images per charge. They also work exceptionally well in cold weather which provides you with longer battery life, unlike some where you have to buy special batteries or just give up on pics during those late months of deer season.
The setup for this camera doesn’t take much time and you can easily review your images on the 1.2” color LCD screen that have been captured on your 2GB SD card that is also included with your purchase. The Natural Gear camouflage is very effective in concealing the unit in any situation. The on/off button is nicely located on the outside of the unit. Unlike others that you have to take apart the camera, detach the camera or move it around to take it out of a holder and even open it just to turn it off.
With features such as Burst Mode allowing you to take up to 5 daytime images in sequence every time the unit is triggered. This is the “only” trail camera currently on the market to offer a standard flash and a “No Glow” IR flash all in the “same” unit. If you want red light photos at night just clip the red cover over the light and walk away. Because there is no LED emitters like many trail cameras. Therefore, there is no red glow when using the IR filter at night, from the industry leader in passive infrared detection for almost 20 years.
This camera takes high quality 5 megapixel pictures even in IR mode and color and are taken at a fast trigger speed. Some companies boast fast trigger speeds, CamTrakker boasts night shots at .186 seconds or day shots at .388 seconds, now that is fast!
When I spoke of being able to micro manage a camera I was speaking of being able to adjust how far you want the flash to flash. Flash control setting allows you the following choices; 1-6, 7- 9, 10-15, 16-20, 21-30 and 31-50 feet. You can adjust image quality low, medium, high and image size with two choices 1.2 and 5.0 megapixels.
When you want to take pictures, either on a 24 hr. bases or take a picture every so many seconds or minutes and quit at a certain time. These settings can be found under motion capture and time lapse. Other settings include; time and temp stamping and burst mode and burst mode delay time. What camera currently on the market offers these options? This is merely the tip of the iceberg for management.
This is just a great all around trail camera and with the options that are included is one of the top choices of cameras in my book. For more information on the CamTrakker and also on the integrated digital camera the MK-10 Environmental head to www.camtrakker.com
