With me being a new hunter I didn't want to invest too much money into camo. I have some leftover uniforms from past deployments that are made, for the most part, from the same materials as store bought camo. Only difference is obviously pattern. How much more effective is store bought camo? Is the scent control that much better? Will my uniforms work just as well? As always, I appreciate any and all help and opinions! I wear my old Marine marpat stuff early season and it works just fine. As far as patterns go just something to break up your outline is fine. I'd save the money and you should be fine until you decide if you want something else.
I've killed many a deer dressed in the old camo patterns similar to that. Find a good spot and pay attention to the wind and you'll be fine.
First, thank you for your service. Second, I would definitely use your uniforms. The camo looks great and I'm sure they are plenty warm. If you are worried about scent, you could buy unscented detergent and laundry soap and wash your clothes and let them air dry outside. Then just store them in air tight bag or container. I use the big plastic storage containers at Walmart, I think they are like 10 bucks. Good luck.
As long as they fit they would be fine. If you are worried about scent control you can address that with a base layer. I hunted in the standard woodland pattern and would still be today if they still fit me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Awesome! Thanks a lot you guys! I'll be using these with some scent free laundry detergent then! Sent from my SM-G920T using Tapatalk
Absolutely use what you have. Only buy the scent blocker camo if you r hunting mature bucks and having no success without it. Personally I will never buy the scent blocker camo. But DO use the scent control detergent, body soap, field spray etc. I would caution to watch out for gasoline or other strong chemical smells on your uniform from your service though. I assume that can be washed out after a few washes but I'm not sure. But as far as pattern that's just as good as anything else for whitetails from a treestand or blind.
I didn't get to work with any harsh chemicals while wearing the uniform so I'm assuming a simple wash with non scented detergent and scent block spray should be fine? Do y'all recommend just a thorough wash off my combat boots? To wash off the grime and dirt off them? Sent from my SM-G920T using Tapatalk
Rex, Your old uniforms will work just fine. You just have to of course dress appropriately for the weather. As far as the boots go if they are jungle boots and you are going somewhere cold that might not work well. In Florida you should be fine. Just do the same thing you did when you went to the field to stay comfortable in the conditions you are in. First and grime on the boots are fine as long as they don't have any orders. Intact its adds to the camo. Good luck and kill something big!!
sure they will work. can kill deer in about anything except a white shirt unless your in a snow bank lol. I never use scent except mine to relieve myself in a buck's. I never could figure out how to beat the wind so I don't even try just keep the wind in my face if possible. movement and outline is what gives ya away IMO. after leaves fall bungee some brush up behind your stand to keep from being skylined and if hunting off ground old blow down's are great. good luck
