Does anyone here not use camo? I have had just as much luck in a pair of bluejeans and a t-shirt. As long as the wind is right and you don't move the deer won't see you. I don't see paying all this money for camo and don't really need it. My grandfather killed all sorts of animals and never heard of realtree!
You are correct.. countless deer were killed before camo was ever invented.. If your good without it why bother.
Grandpa didn't have 300+ fps compound bows but I'm not going to avoid spending money on them or avoid using them. I could hunt without them but my odds are better with them. I have less then $200 invested in my camo not that much of an expense Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I'm not saying that I don't use camo but I can get by without it. There is so much emphasis put on the kill and that is only a small part of the hunt. I don't have to kill a deer every time out or every year. I have not killed a dee in a few years now. I enjoy being in nature and that is what it is all about. All the hunting shows has made it about killing and not nature. I have hunted with a compound and a recurve. Just because it shoots slower don't mean it's a handicap. It is also a lot quiter.
Your ancestors used camo....just not the name brand kind. I think Mother Nature and evolution has settled the argument over whether to use camo or not.
I would freeze to death hunting in a tee shirt and jeans up here. I've been wearing the same camo jacket and bibs for 8 years so I'm not concerned about the few hundred bucks I spent.
Grandpa probably wasn't shooting a lot of mature deer and if he was he wasn't using a bow most likely.. I don't think camo is needed, same with scent control products, range finders, treestands, groundblinds, scents, 300 fps bows, carbon arrows and coundless other things.. but they give you a advantage and sometimes you need every advantage you can get. if you want to hunt with a tee and blue jeans, doesn't bother me best of luck to you.. but I'm going to be decked in camo, carrying my high performace bow and all my other high tech gear loving the outdoors as much as the guy out sight seeing in his blue jeans and teeshirt. I don't do much more than archery hunt these days, my life generally revolves around my women and work, so the one thing I love to do more than just about anything else, its worth every penny.
I'm not wearing camo to conceal myself from just the deer, but other hunters also. as soon as someone spots you hunting an area.... "hmmmmm, must be a reason he's hunting there, let me sit in that area too"
if you were bagging deer every year dressed in jeans and white T-shirt it would strengthen the argument that camo wasn't needed. just saying....
I've already said that I wear camo. But have also hunted without it. Just look at some of the hunters that have to wear hunter orange vest. They still kill big deer. Deer aren't the smartest animals out there. I understand what AWK08 is saying about other people as I hunt public land also. And I'm not knocking people for wearing it or taking every advantage they can get. But I think a lot of deer could be killed without camo. I have shot a couple with blue jeans and a tee shirt but that was a few years ago. And I also think the best camo pattern I have ever wore was the original tree bark.
I wear camo. I don't wear the big name brands simply because most of them are too dark imo. If you stand on the ground and look up in to a tree you mostly see the sky which is usually lighter. I still wear my Predator camo that I bought when they were their own little company and made in USA. I do believe it makes a difference.
I've read deer see the color blue and that's the one color to avoid. Interesting you've killed deer in blue jeans. Did they ever stare at you than go about their business when you didn't move?
When I was in high school and couldn't afford it, I wore blue jeans and a camo shirt. Only ever killed small bucks and does. Now I don't really have a problem spending money on the best because good clothing can make a huge difference and I am a heck of a lot more serious about bowhunting.
I have had deer stare at me when wearing blue jeans. But also while wearing camo. Most times if you don't move they don't pay to much mind to you. I also like a more light or open camo when hunting from a tree and wish someone would bring back tree bark.
