I have a summit viper treestand. As many of you might know, the paint on these things does not like to stay on. I have found a company that will sandblast off the existing paint and camo dip it for $150.

Do you think this is a good idea and if so, is this a pretty fair price to do it?

How long have you had the stand after the paint started to come off? Sorry for being kind of off topic.

I took three cans of Walmart brand .99-cent spray paint in flat olive, flat black, and flat brown and touched mine up ... looks plenty good enough to get the job done.

If you want to get real fancy, you can take some stiff cardboard, cut out a "leaf" stencil and paint some leaves on it in varying colors...

    $3 vs. $150. You decide.

Sell the summit, spend the extra money on a Lone Wolf and it would make a bigger difference than the paint. Noise is the biggest killer with Climbers IMO.

If I remember right... Muzzyman went all out a few years ago painting his stand by hand in a predator style paint job. Wonder how that held up for him?

I gotta hand it to you LW boys, you sure are loyal. But I guess that is because you have to justify paying way too much for a stand that you can't sit in for more than an hour and be comfortable.

I guess you guys are right, the Wally World paint will probably do fine. I just want it to stay on the stand and I know that it won't. I guess I can just keep touching it up year after year.

You would have more in your Summit having it sandblasted and repainted than purchasing a LW.

I have used both extensively. I prefer the LW although the Summit is a very nice stand as well. My Summit peeled extremely bad. I just used spray paint much like Greg suggested. I used that stand for 7 seasons.

Todd, not hating, but have you actually used both? Not even close man. I have both and the summit kicks the L/Ws face in. Comfort, ease of use and weight. The L/W is advertised at a lighter weight but weigh them, my bushmaster weighs 17.7lbs, the L/W is 20.2lbs. The L/w does lay flat though, summit is bulkier. Lone wolf has moving parts to lay flat, summit much quieter, welded everything on summit, L/W is a pile of parts that is slid and screwed together, think about it, I have had to tighten almost every screw on all of my L/w sticks, alpha and hand climber, many times, and all are pre china. There is alot of L/W cool aid out there thats all I'm saying. I personaly paint all my stands this time of year and air them out. I wouldn't spend $150 on a dip job, I would spend the $150 on more hunting gear.

Exactly, anytime I see someone post on a climbing stand, the LW guys come on and talk about how loud and bulky the summits are and I just don't get it. I've had deer come up on me while I was climbing the tree in my "noisy old pos summit". And every thread that I've read on the LW is you have to buy an $80 Summit seat to make it comfortable enough to sit in. I'll take the comfort any day.

And I will be getting some spray paint to touch mine up and call it good.

Try using Rhino truck bed liner spray! Extremely tough and lasts for years.

If you clean it really well, sand it or I prefer using a wire brush attachment on a grinder or drill, prime it and then spray it, it will last for a long time. If you really do it right and take it apart and do it. $150 will get you another stand to use.

x2 for Rhino Liner. That has to be one of the best ideas ever for a treestand. I actually think I'm going to do that.
