Hey guys, I'm looking for either a video camera, or a camera to put on my bow to video my bow hunts. I want to be able to zoom in with clear quality. Not wanting to spend over $250. Any ideas? Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Buy a used camcorder in that price range. All shot with a camcorder attached to my bow. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Used camcorder is a good idea. I use one similar to this and it's $190 on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Sony-Recordi...&qid=1504152755&sr=1-3&keywords=sony+handycam You can get camera arms reasonably cheap as well on Amazon. I just don't like cameras mounted to my bow. The footage vibrates when you shoot and I'm usually grabbing another arrow just in case so I don't get good footage of the animal after the shot. At any rate there's a couple cents of opinion.
The problem with all bow mounted cameras is that at the moment of truth, you get the worst possible footage.
In that price range I would recommend the Tactacam 3.0 https://www.tactacam.com/shop/tactacam-3-0-bundle/ They are running a special right now that falls in your price range.
All true that the bow does shake some on the shot and then nocking another arrow the camera is all over the place but I'm hunting, not making a living at filming my hunts. The pros out weight the cons for me. I can quickly video anything while I'm walking or stalking all with one hand and which your arm work as a Great secondary stabilizer. When I'm drawn back on an animal my camera is pointed directly at him and I can zoom in or out with one finger. I don't have to mess with carting and setting up a tripod or tree arm ever. My camera stays on my bow and I never have to mess with it again except to turn on or off. I just focus on the hunt which is what I'm really there for. Any Video footage is just a bonus to the hunt. To each his own but this will be my 9th season hunting this way and Ive gotten some great footage having my camera aways in the ready. The bow/camera is always there and quick to video anything I see without hesitation or having to take the camera off a bracket or tripod. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Also another question. I see there is a tactacam 4.0 available. Would it be worth spending a little more for that one compared to the 3.0? Or is there not much difference between the two Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
The main difference I can tell is that the 4.0 is Blue tooth/WiFi compatible. There is a tactacam app for your phone that allows you to control the camera and instantly review footage. I believe that one is going for 300.00. It would be up to you on whether it's worth another 80 dollars for those features. In my opinion I think it would be pretty neat however I don't see myself doing a lot of on the fly controlling a camera from my phone once a deer is in front of you. I personally own the 2.0 and like it. Obviously the 3.0 and 4.0 are much better.
You cand set it to 5X zoom by pushing the mode button. Once the record button is blueish its 5X. Same for the 4.0
How do u know it isn't zoomed in too far without being able to see the video live? Like is 5x too zoomed in for 10-20 yards? Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Unless you have the 4.0 you just have to practice with it. With the 4.0 cam you can see it with your phone.
Heck, buy two and an arm for the static shot. Bow shots are cool, but shaky. Also for B reel and other shots you will want a camera on an arm. I have an old HD camcorder and a muddy mount that hooks onto a regular bow arm. Works great. Sent from my SM-N900V using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
