I'f your talking about video cameras, I think a lot of them us the Sony AX2000. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk
IF your talking trail cameras we are sponsored by Stealth Cam If you are talking video cameras most guys use either a SONY AX2000 or Cannon XA 20. Todd, Justin and some of the other guys that run solo love there XA 20 s. When it comes to DSLR we all run different ones. Trevor and Tyler both run cannons, Todd and Justin use nikons and Frank and I use a sony.
I think these guys covered it pretty well. Todd and I both use Canon XA20 cameras because we do a lot of solo filming and they're smaller/lighter than the Sony AX2000. I'm using a Nikon D7100 for b-roll and an Epic Instant-On for 2nd angle/POV shots. We record everything in the studio with a pair of Nikon D7000 SLRs.
I have gave the xa 10 a long look...I know it is the "level" down from the XA20...what would be the next camera "down a level" from the XA10?
Nevermind....looks like the XA10 is the lowest level in their professional lines...from their you would have to go to the Vixia line for next current options.
I think the HF G20 is the next step down from the XA10. It's basically the same camera minus the handle/XLR inputs.
Hey Justin, have you had a chance to look at the new Sony HXR-NX3 yet? I'm pretty sure this is my next camera. Seems like it's got lots of great features that would be perfect for web based filming. Like having the camera record in both 1080 60p and simutaniously record in an MP4 at 720 while being able to share that on wi-fi right to your smart phone and upload it immediately. Pretty sweet technological advancement from the AX2000. On top of that, it's got 3 larger sensors so it should be even better in those low light situations. I know it's missing some of the features that hardcore videographers want, but most of those features would be wasted on me anyway. Just curious if you've seen anything on it yet?
I like the Cannon XA 10, Im a solo filmer and like the compact size of it. If I upgrade it will be the XA 20
I did look at that camera and while it has a lot of nice features I'm just not sure it's anything we would use often enough to justify switching from the XA20. The NX3 is basically the same size as the AX2000 and having downsized cameras I just can't see myself going back. With the AX2000 not only was the camera itself larger and heavier but it also required a larger, more sturdy camera arm to support it. With my XA20 I can get away with the Lone Wolf camera arm, which is extremely light weight. It makes a huge difference when you're packing in camera gear with the rest of your stuff. If I was exclusively filming with a camera man and didn't have to worry about carrying everything in one pack I think the NX3 would be the cat's meow. However for self filming I think the XA20 is still your best bet. For 99% of the guys out there filming their own hunts and using them on the web, or even on some TV shows, I just don't know that you really get an extra $1,000 worth of usable performance from the NX3 over the XA20.
I've been using the XA 10 since it came out a couple years ago, and I love it. Like the others stated, its a great camera especially for solo filming, because of its compact size. If I would decide to upgrade, I too would jump into the XA 20, just to reach out and get footage at a further distance.
I have a sony ax 2000 with a V arizoom rocker remote. Also have a couple epic cams do different angles. Sent from my SCH-R530U using Tapatalk
I use the Canon XA20 with a varizoom as well as multiple Epic cams for different angles. When Melissa is with me she shoots a lot of second angle b-roll with a Sony a-65 in addition to the XA20.
